As cool as a mini-Z, s15 successor or whatever would be cool to see, it's going to have to be better than the BRZ/FR-S in every way to be successful. It's going to have a few other competitors out there including a all new MX-5 in the works. I wouldn't be surprised if Nissan ditched the engine altogether and make this an all-electric.

Considering the fact that the Nano costs under $2,000, some glued on pieces is completely acceptable. A car like that is only meant to serve one purpose. Get me from point A to point B without blowing up.

The 458 Italia has some glued parts. It has nothing to do with build quality...although it did cause some fires, lol. Believe it or not, a glued part can be just as strong, if not stronger than a weld. They're using engineered glue that's nothing close to the stuff you use for arts and crafts.

The future is lighter weight, better aerodynamics, less internal friction/energy loss for maximum efficiency. Like Mike said, a 240hp, 2400lbs Z would be more fun than a 330hp, 3300lbs Z, all other things being equal. I don't think 2400lbs on a 240hp car would be possible in the next few years unless it's crazy expensive, but I think 2800 lbs would be doable. That's like an S2000 hp and weight, but include more torque.

I hope the new Z would be just as Nimble, if not more than the current 370z. I'm all about efficiency. Nissan would be smart to tap into the S2000, BRZ/FR-S, Miata market. I'm excited to see what they're gonna do - hopefully they'll keep it a 2 seater. I love the side profile of a fastback coupe.

It's true. When you weld something, you stress the metal. Also, depending on the weld, a comparable assembly with some sort of high strength adhesive will have a greater contact area...thus a higher shear strength. A spot weld or bead that doesn't penetrate completely for example, has less contact areas. Auto manufacturers like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston..etc..etc...have been using adhesives instead of welding for years in some areas where it's just impossible to weld. Areas where CF and steel/aluminum meet for example, where a bolted connection would be weaker and add weight.

What do you think holds carbon fiber components together. CF is just a piece of fabric without the epoxy (or adhesive) that keeps it stiff. It's not a difficult concept to wrap your head around. NASA uses high strength adhesives for god's sake. With all that though, they have limitations and are susceptible to extreme temperature changes.
