It's not "inflation" as much as it is a strong yen versus the dollar. Everything being exported out of Japan right now is pretty expensive. This is extremely apparent in the sportbike market, where bikes that were 8.5k 10 years ago now sell for closer to 13.5k.
Because of this, sportbikes coming out of Europe (Germany/Italy) while historically more expensive than their Japanese couterparts, are now in the same price range. Japan is worried about the strong yen, and they have every right to be. Here's an article about it. Strong Yen Threatens Japan |

GT-R is a hundred thousand dollar car. We're talking sub $50k market demographic, where the bread &butter is. (volume sales) Last edited by UNKNOWN_370; 01-18-2013 at 03:28 PM. |

dude are you READING up on Z news or just assuming that because of some past pattern uou think business will be the same??? Do you know anything about the 2016 and 2020 CAFE standards coming up? Do you know that every car company is downsizing their engines. The Q50 has a 3.5 hybrid and a 3.7. So if the G is any proof of the next gen Z, it would be in the Q50 since the G moniker no longer exists. So with your thinking, the 400Z is still NOT coming. think... That said, Nissan claims that the G and Z will no longer share platforms, and the Z is set to get a more efficient engine, ie downsized... which further negates your 400Z thinking At best the Z will keep the 3.7 and get a 3.5 hybrid alternative, then make a 4 cyl baby Z. The 4.0ltr v6 is the most unefficient engine out there. And honestly, once 4 litres, you should probably consider running a v8. |

As long as the car continues to be a value it will sell to the type of buyers who have been into Z's from the beginning. Once it starts to lose that "bang for the buck" factor, I think you'll see sales decline. |

i don't mean volume sales of the Z. I mean offering a sports car to the volume sales market, the under $50k market. Sorry i wasn't clearer. |

I guess it's only because I'm a new homeowner now and the last thing on my mind is buying a new car costing over $30k. I feel old... been going out talking about how things used to be several years ago haha.

I think thats what makes American cars sell like hot cakes over JDM, You learn about aftermarket support while looking at these cars. They'll be ready to roll you out with a brand new exhaust/intake while you sign the paperwork or within 24 hrs. Thats huge... And a BIG selling point. Also parts pricing is 50% less than JDM. Not a knock cuz i luv my Z, but these are things that would boost z sales. |
