.....

the mustang GT and camaro v8 are cheaper than the Z...

for the price of a NISMo you can get a boss 302...

when the z moves up market from where it is now, it wont be in the same price bracket as those cars.

if the Z moves up to that price bracket i honestly expect the next Z to be as good or better than a porsche in terms of interior/exterior quality, power and handling although i have to admit it does that pretty well even now lol

I agree, it def would need to have materials/build quality equal to say the '09-'11 GTR wiht great styling to match that price point. And of course some balls in the performance dept and track worthy out of the box. They can totally do it if they really want to. If this juke based sports coupe does come out, there's no reason not to. Also, they could have some extra trim levels to have a nice price point spread from base Z (40K) all the way up to nismo RC trim (55-58K).

I might go back to american cars. It's been 20 years since I had my Buick GN. I bought a 93 FD and never looked back. The mustang and camaro made me start paying attention. The camaro SS1LE/ZL1 got me thinking, this new corvette (though not in love with looks) got me excited.

Nissan talking about FWD's and hybrids is makin my D*ick limp.

JDM is going backwards. Slow JDM cars were cool in the 80's when a CRX was $11,000 and a camaro Z28 was $22,750 and the corvette wa $27,000. You can get a supra turbo for the $21,000 and $3,500 made it faster than most muscle cars in those days. Times have changed and JDM going backwards to low 200hp cars for $30,000 when there's a $33,000 domestic cars on a lot with 400 hp. It's ludacris, This going to make me keep my money domestic.

And if someone tells me power doesn't matter? I will go to your house and throw up in your car!!!!
Can't tell if serious...

Was there a 3.8 before the GTR. All engines start somewhere and nissan has been slowly going up in displacement since the start. Why would they go away from a very successful sports car line up to switch to something new before testing it out.
Bad economy and record high gas prices?

Lightbulb

The Z can't move up market. That's what lead to the eventual demise of the Z32. It was exceeding $40k, which was pricey for its time. The Z is supposed to be the budget sports car for the masses. All these new cars nowadays are full of electronic gizmos, and it seems like the unfortunate result of what the market wants nowadays beyond cup holders.

I miss seeing budget pocket rockets in the $15k range. How about a RWD economical pocket rocket with a 1.6L turbo (option)? It serves as an economical starting point for enthusiasts, and is economical for those who want a fun fuel sipping car with a bit of turbo grunt.

If the Z remains in the upper $28k to sub $30k range, it must face stiff competition with the pony cars. Even if it is in a different class, it is already being subjected to such comparos. Look at owners who dropped the Z in favor of Mustangs (no offense, but that's just how it is).

So here's what I think Nissan needs to cover their bases for performance, value, and fuel economy:
Sub $15k FWD: Sentra SE-R (standard 1.6L turbo)
Sub $20k RWD: Silvia (standard 1.6-2.4L turbo)
Sub $30k RWD: Z (3.5-3.8L NA V6 or maybe 2.5-3.0L turbo V6)

Wishful thinking because of inflation.

50k after inflation to today pushes that alot higher. Plus production for that Z was alot more expensive due to all the (then high tech) stuff they put in it that other cars didnt have. Sharing components for today's z brings production cost down and it can remain profitable.

The Z will most probably end up starting at 40k and go to 50k.

assuming the lower car will go around 25-30k range
