Spoil or Not To Spoil? That is the Question!

Although I love the looks of my '09 CY Touring Z Coupe, it does not have the rear spoiler. Correct me if I'm wrong (gee did I have to ask...ha ha) but doesn't the rear spoiler only come with the Sports Package which mine does not have? I would love to have the spoiler installed but I'm debating whether this would go against how the car came stock and I'm a stickler about keeping my Z stock. So the question is....how many of you would have it installed?

dP3NGU1N 01-17-2013 11:46 AM

If you want to keep it stock then don't add anything to it? The sports package came with a small spoiler which can be purchased from nissan separately. I really don't understand what you mean by "go against how the car came stock". If you add something to your car, that part is no longer stock. A sports package spoiler is not a stock part for a base Z, but because the hatch is the same for all versions the sports package spoiler (as well as the nismo spoiler) can be added at your expense (purchase, painting, drilling/installing).

Hope that covers any and all possible original queries.

First of all, it's the Touring model not Base. I know what you mean and you're right, it won't be stock anymore. So would you add the spoiler if you were me?

DR_ 01-17-2013 11:57 AM

The spoiler also comes as a dealer installed option so lots of non-sport Z's have it. So to me if you add it you would still be stock.

i have the stock spoiler if you need it, i went with an aerojacket type III carbon fiber now

hard to tell from the pic but it has more of a flip on the end providing more downforce

JungleZ 01-17-2013 12:21 PM

I like my look without the spoiler , although not saying ugly with it

:iagree: Considering it would be referred to as a "stock spoiler" I don't think it'd make your car "not stock"

I would get it!

Going by what I've heard cough an '09 Touring still feels well-planted at 100. Unless you like the look, I'd say no. YMMV

the reason why i put one larger on was the back end gets VERY light when hitting bumps while cornering at high speed (on the track) the stock spoiler is ok but a larger one stabilized it even more.

dP3NGU1N 01-17-2013 12:40 PM

I'm actually planning to remove mine eventually so it's all personal preference. I think the lines are much cleaner without the spoiler and I'm not sure how much downforce that little bit of lip actually adds.

That said once i get all of my mods together I'm probably going to get a gt wing for the track so it's all up to you.

Jordo! 01-17-2013 12:48 PM

I say go for the S-tune spoiler.

That is bump steer and you would be better served to fix the problem through suspension tuning rather than masking it with downforce.

I'm assuming, since this is in the general section and the way the question was asked, that it's a DD and won't get much over the speed limit for very long. I've been wrong before. ;)

For me it's all about the look...imho! PM me regarding your stock spoiler! Thanks USMCASA!

JohnsZ 01-17-2013 01:13 PM

Thanks everyone for your input. You gave me the answer I was looking for. I hope to be adding one soon.

kenchan 01-17-2013 01:14 PM

yah, definitely needs spoiler.

reminds me of the Z review bestmotoring did before they got canned(?) stating the car looked weird from the side/rear. well, it didnt have a rear spoiler to finish the look.

DEpointfive0 01-17-2013 01:21 PM

Bullshite, add the spoiler, it looks REALLY nice!

If your religion or principles will not allow a non stock car in your life then do not do it. If you want what you want, then do it.

Follow your heart.

Needs one and someone is offering it to you.

:icon18: yes add the spoiler and it's command of the English language will improve greatly!

shadoquad 01-18-2013 11:06 PM

Think the car looks great with or without. I prefer the bare azz look myself, but do what makes you happy.

It's really a personal preference, glad to see you make up your mind about adding it.

here's how it looks like just FYI:

I think the Z looks bald without a spoiler.

A Brazillian isn't bad... but not on a Z

03g35coupe6mt 01-19-2013 11:35 AM

yeah looks naked without that spoiler

Jasonle 01-19-2013 12:01 PM

I like both with or without.

OldGuy 01-19-2013 12:35 PM

I bought my '09 base new, primarily for its looks. Dealer offerred to install a spoiler prior to taking delivery. It's nice, but frankly I like the prefer the looks of the car without the spoiler. Some cars have to have one and some cars are more appealing to the eye without one. The car is still stock if you have it added. I preferred none and love my car's look that way.

FYI, I found this photo somewhere in the forum, it's not my Z :icon17:

But I have spoiler on mine too.

OP, if you like the way it looks then put it on. I have an 09 base w/ sport package. I like the Nismo front clip so I had that put on my car.

Drive the car the way you want it and do what ever makes you happy. Your Z is YOURS.

Do it. I got my 09 z less then a week ago spoiler less. Lets just say today spoiler is on. Got it on ebay brand new painted for $130 shipped.

If you run into problems with the hatch opening after you install the spoiler, check out the hatch weight removal DIY.

Did anyone ever end up running this?

Near naked?

Tapatalk & such etc

nmjaxx9 01-20-2013 01:21 PM

Spoil it, the wing looks good on the Z, better than some aftermarket :icon17:

I know everyone has their own opinion -- Here is mine -- That thing looks terrible. Definitely looks like an afterthought.
