Just try to not get upset....I am crazy type A and it didn't bother me until I had tragedy strike several times and I must have internalized it...

So I know how it is...

Wow that is a major bummer, Just like everyone else said - take care of yourself first (which you did) then worry about the material things,

As far as the shop towing your car and begining unauthorized repairs?! wow I would be pissed, I am going to take a shot in the dark here - the shop most likely has a contract with your insurance company and does repairs on the cheap/bulk method, which I would be fuming about.... some cheap shop that is repairing your damaged parts... makes you wonder where else will they cut corners? I wouldn't be surprised if they throw in some cheap aftermarket replacements in the repair to keep the bill down.

Big props for getting a lawyer, I wish you best of luck and I completely understand where you are coming from; my s2000 with low mileage was clipped and I had an entire left side replaced, I sold the car 2 days after it got out of the shop, even though it looked and drove perfect it just wasn't the same for me, I just had this gloomy feeling knowing I am driving a flawed car. It is a brand new car and you shouldn't have to drive with a 'cloud' over your subconscious.

Keep us updated and hang in there bud.

Update: Car is now at the correct shop. The shop manager called me to say he was very uncomfortable with what he was told by the adjustor Direct General (the at-fault's company) had sent over. They said I had lost control of my car, and they pushed him to use non-OEM/remanufactured parts, repair things he didn't feel comfortable repairing, ignored the damage to the rims (he insinuated that they implied that they were old damages, but he could tell they were shiny/new).

When I told him what ACTUALLY happened, the shop manager said that yes, that is exactly the story that my car told him.

In short, if you have Direct General, I want to pimp-slap the **** out of you because they are a crap company, and I am glad as hell that I lawyered up, this is going to be a nightmare.

What I have done in the past is to have my insurance company fix the car and bill the at fault company. One of the times was my 1991 300ZXTT that a old guy in a ford wagon turned into scrap metal, He had some crap insurance company. So state farm totaled the car. Paid me, and collected from his insurance. Talk with your insurance company and let them know what is going on maybe they will help speed things up.

Sorry to hear about everything that happened, I hope you get everything resolved with your Z and the insurance company BS.

My Z took some similar damage in an accident last year where I hit a guard rail. Front fender was replaced, rear fender was repaired/repainted, front and rear bumpers were repainted, and 2 wheels were repaired. Luckily for me it was only cosmetic damage, but the total came out to about $3-4k for the repair.
