Didn't buy it just to commute in it. Gotta have some fun!
I wish I could get 8K miles out of a set, and I do not spin the tires. I am on my third set, original plus two, and I've got 15,500 miles total. It is the fronts that go first.

On the flip side of that, I wish I could go to tracks and get less than 5K out of my tires

Sorry, retard gene kicked in.....I mean what is your shifting procedure for fast takeoffs, do you rev up and dump the clutch or wait for clutch to hook up and floor it?

This is what I do! I take off on first gear hit like 5k Rpms, press the clutch. Shift to second gear, not so fast but not so slow i take out the clutch, and so on. What do ppl mean by "dump the clutch" "wait for clutch to hook up and floor it?"

Definitely. I have my moments of fun, but I'm such a cheap-*** that the price of the tires sticks in my mind and keeps me from being stupid sometimes (probably saves me a ticket or something too )

Especially since it's just a month old. This all may change later on.

Dump the clutch = rev up in neutral with shift knob in first, then let go of the clutch completely (dumping it) when your RPMs are up high - this creates much more wear on the clutch than the method below

Wait for the clutch = floor the accelerator once the gear is engaged but the RPMs at the shift are reasonable

Dump the clutch means you rev up to say 3K RMP with clutch pressed, then you release the clutch very fast by either moving your foot up fast or moving it to the side and clutch will pop back up, i haven't done this because i'm not sure if it will cause more wear, but there are lots of you tube videos...

So when u are in first gear with the clutch pressed you rev then just let it go. Sounds like a recipe for disaster!

Well mine were a combination of spinning them a little too much and hard cornering. I have been taking it easy on my new set....til Spring! I hope to get at least 15k out of them but would like to see closer to 20k. Good rubber doesn't come cheap.

Yup! And it can be... unless you know what you're doing please don't ever practice this on public roads - it is a maneuver for track or drag strip only

Really. My fate for years. Annual fronts semi annual complete. Now it is annual replacement of all four. I do not look at it like a waste; quite the opposite, it means the stays car is on the road during hard cornering, like the tires. Going to the track wears them out 10 - 20% faster I figure.

My very first tires did spin a little as I got used to the cars power. Never black patches laid down over distance except once. A learning experience not to be repeated.

Good luck getting more life from the tires.

We got <10K mile out of the stock Potenzas with my wife doing daily highway driving. I switched to Nitto Invo rears in Jan 2012 and the car became my DD in July 2012. I just replaced all four wheels with new Nitto Invo tires in Dec after getting 20K on them. And I can guarantee you I was harder on those tires in 6 months than we were on the Potenzas over their entire life. I definitely let the tires loose on corners every so often, but usually I wait for a bit of rain - I can have a lot more fun for the same amount of wear on the tires

Does the Gear lock if you dont shift fast enough?

While I was driving today I was shifting to second, and I swear I felt as if it was locking. Then I started shifting Faster and it felt smoother So back to my question.

If you shift fast, Does that make it smoother? and If you shift slower does that make it seem stiffer?

Now thinking back I never shifted fast, but now Im going to start. It feels a lot better.
