Default keyless ignition question

We had some ice here in Chicago over the weekend and since this is my first car with keyless ignition I wondered if I could lock the car with it running, and go inside while it heated up enough to scrape the windows? Will it go into some shut down mode if I'm a certain distance from the car? For that matter, will it even let me lock the car with it running.

You can lock the car and have the engine running.
Actually you can drive away with the car with no key once it is started, it will just flash a warning light that no key is within the car.

You can do this, provided you do NOT leave key inside the car. It will not let you lock your keys in your car---whether or not the engine is running.

OP, if you do decide to leave your car running while you wait inside your house, make sure you keep your eyes on the car. Someone can drive off in it.

Thanks everyone. I was afraid to try locking it and going back inside with it running. Nice to know I can in a pinch. I usually don't drive the Z if the forecast is for any kind of snow, and at home the car is garaged. I happened to stay with my girlfriend and the ice was worse than predicted.

Not true. I do it all of the time. Use the second key to lock the door.
You could even take the key out of the fob to lock the door and leave the fob in the car.

Not if he locks the car while running.

It won't only if you use the button

If you want to lock the car while the engine running, you have to push on the lock button inside the car. It will lock everything up. Just make sure you take your key with you when you close the door behind or you'll be locked out for good.

Sounds like the steering lock:
ATTENTION!! 2009-2010 owners with steering lock/wont start issues

Search and you will find many threads on this issue, some DIY fixes. The main fix is either eliminate the system completely or make sure you get a Revision D of the steering lock.

Really? I was told the car would turn off after a certain distance without the key.
