can I trust Dealer Installation?

I am getting a 13' Nismo with Bose and Illuminated Kickplate.
But it doesn't have the in-mirror rearview camera.

Rearview camera is available under dealer installed options.
But, can I really trust the dealer to install this?
knowing that on a brand new car, panels have to be popped open for installing camera/harness is a bit nerve wrecking for me.

I'd rather have them already installed in Japan, but doesn't seem to have an option..

Please suggest!! Thanks in advance.

JungleZ 01-11-2013 09:16 PM

IDE rather have the dealer be responsible, and dam 2013 nismo I wonder how much you're paying after taxes..!
Ballllling

FairladyZ 01-11-2013 10:04 PM

why are you worried? You have warranty, and they did it. If they **** up they will fix everything they jacked up.

NIssan scratched my anniversary rim and got me a brand new one.

Just go do it.

I do suggest you got to a reputable one atleast.

A good thing about the dealer is that they will take responsibility for their work. A better dealer will inspect your car at check in and take responsibility for their work.

Waiz 01-11-2013 10:10 PM

If it's a legit dealership by all means go for it

If they break anything they will fix it

frost 01-11-2013 10:11 PM

What they said

street2soul 01-12-2013 12:48 AM

thanks guys.
still just a little worried about the technicians that will install this.
they better not break any plastic clips, scratch or drill or mount the camera at a different location than Factory OEM installed ones.

You can spend your entire life worrying about that kind of ****, or you can just accept that at some point, it's going to happen and move on.

Well put.

forza370z 01-12-2013 01:11 AM

Like others have said, if Nissan dealership f**ks up things they will have to fix it or get you a new one. I don't understand why you worry so much. If you don't trust a Nissan dealership install an OEM part onto a Nissan car, where else you would trust?

11Thumper 01-12-2013 04:02 AM

If you're that worried just learn to do it yourself. Otherwise, not much to complain about it should be fine. If they totally screw it up they'll fix it but if you can't do it yourself I doubt you'll notice their screw up unless very obvious.

danegrey 01-12-2013 10:00 AM

agree with everyone on this with Nissan dealerships,
have found a great one in Atlanta that I trust with everything

kenchan 01-12-2013 10:49 AM

my dealer installed the illuminated side sills and the sport package diffuser and splash guards. it was part of the package so i didnt get to choose.

the diffuser and sidesills they did fine. but the rear right splashguard... :icon14: wtf.

i think you can trust them, but before work show them you have no scratches (take picts even), then verify together with the service advisor after the work is done. dont drive off the lot until you are 100% satisfied.

I don't really trust dealers to work on my car.

Last dealership I went to I brought my stock 1997 240sx to get the waterpump changed (Should have done myself). Two NISSAN techs came outside and complimented my on my R33 skyline. When I told them it was a stock 240sx one asked me if I knew I had a skyline front conversion on it :shakes head: Got my car back 2 hours later and go a mile down the road, car overheats. I look under the hood and they had forgotten to put ANY coolant back in the radiator :ugh2: Returned to the dealership and they filled it back up. The next day I was driving and my water pump belt grenaded :icon14:

I've swapped engines, transmissions, done turbo builds and done a frame off resto with no problems. Crappy Nissan dealership can't even replace a waterpump.

FVCK IT BUY A KIA:driving:

PapoZalsa 01-12-2013 09:10 PM

The dealer once scrap the buttom of my front lip, I complaint to the Service Manager. So he wan't in that day next day he called me and apologies and asked me what he culd do to fix this problem.

Since the scratch is barely visible to anyone we agree in a few things.

They installed my steering lock for free and my car is parked inside the bay everytime I take the car to the dealer and they are done with the work.

So know I get VIP treatment. ;)

I installed mine in an afternoon. It's not a difficult task to perform, really.

That's true if you know what you are doing.

Good luck on your decision.

Really appreciate the pictures.
i decided to get the one already coming in february, and have the dealer install the rearview camera and mirror as part of a deal. factory order would take ~5 months since the next ordering process for this dealer was march.

Was taking apart A-pillar, panels and weather strips pain in the butt?
it looked like it could be a little pain when i saw the installation manual.

The a-pillar was probably the toughest panel to come off. The base of it was the trouble. Weather strips came off and went back on with no issue. I started a thread about a tool I use (not door panel tool) that made it very simple and left no scratches or misformed plastic.

street2soul 05-21-2014 04:02 PM

Reviving this thread.

So basically, my moral of the story is:

No i aint ever fuking trust dealership installation. they fuked my rearview camera, speaker, and all the dash trims on a brand new vehicle. Sterling McCall Nissan on highway 59 Houston Texas to be exact.

Tadpole 05-21-2014 04:22 PM

Brand new and under warranty. Take it back over and over until its fixed. Complain to GM and complain to Nissan. They will fix it.

This is the key^^^

Always have them go over your vehicle prior to them taking it in. This avoids confusion and blame later on.

MasterD 06-01-2014 10:37 PM

I'm just wondering how much is the rearview camera anyway?

Nissan charges somewhere around $700. I had them all included in the quote when i was negotiating.

Datsun240Z71 06-02-2014 06:05 AM

I had a local stereo shop install mine. Charged 2 hours labor at $75 per hour and did a great job.

Nismo350z#310 06-02-2014 04:09 PM

from my experience, No.

Dealerships are incompetent from my experience. IF they mess it up will they fix it? Maybe, they never fixed my slave cylinder recall correctly though. Also smashed up my floor boards TWICE due to an improper lift. Didn't accept responsibility till the second time. I had to pay the first.

Yea, Regal in roswell is awsome....

street2soul 06-03-2014 09:19 AM

No matter if the dealer's work is warrantied or not, If you keep going back to have it fixed, you'll end up having a car diassembled and reassembled so much that the integrity will just not be the same.

My pillars and interior panels have been screwed around so much by the dealership that its created rattles that weren't there on a brand new car at that time.

It all depends on the dealership, but my experience tells me that, no do not trust them to do the right work.

GraphiteZ 06-03-2014 11:09 AM

Just went through the exact same thing 3 weeks ago. I had the same feeling when I handed over my key to the service manager. Turns out that was their first time installing a in-mirror camera on a Z:eek: and took them 6 hours to complete the job. I was lucky enough that they did a pretty good job after all.
