Steering lock. Another one down. WTF
Year:
Model: (Base or Touring) Transmission: (6MT/7AT) Miles: Lock Revision: City: Charlotte State: NC Province: Region: Country: US Towed: Not yet. It stranded me, nearly froze to death walking for three hours on a deserted road with no cell signal. Did You Disable SLU? Not yet. Going to try beating on it with a hammer. Downtime (how long without car)? So far one day. Need to go back with some tools. Will be fun climbing under there with it pouring rain outside. |

No Downtime (how long without car)? 3 days I had forgotten about this until I received a notification on my phone from the site. My original bill from Nissan was $1,200+/-. I called Nissan North America who told me to file a claim in writing. I filed and they responded quickly telling me that my particular VIN # isn't included in the 2009-2010 recall. I was PO'd and told them I didn't care if it was in the VIN range or not, that I had the same issue thousands of others are having. They escalated my claim and have offered to reimburse me for the parts by NOT labor. So, they are willing to pay me about $800. I guess I should take it but wanted to see what you all had to say. Let me know, thanks! |

Happened after 10 Years...
Year: 2011
Model: Touring/Sport Transmission: 6MT Miles:50K+ Lock Revision: Unsure City: Covington State: Louisiana Country: USA Towed: Yes Did You Disable SLU? Wasn't able to Downtime 1 day Cost: $540 at Dealership (after applying host of Discounts and Rewards Points!) I never thought this issue would effect my 2011. I always thought this was a problem with the 2008 - 2010 370's. Boy was I wrong. I was in the fuse box a few weeks ago when I installed my Morimoto headlights with the DRL strips and had to run a new wiring harness with a fuse to them. Had I had an inkling that this was an issue with my car, I would have disabled the SLU by removing it's fuse then. I will be disabling it soonest - first opportunity I have, despite the repair. MORAL OF THE STORY: if you have an '08 - 011 370Z, PULL THE FUSE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

Monterey Blue
Well despite having the revised steering lock unit replaced under the recall back in 2010 my 09 370z quit on me as I went to drive home from work yesterday, friday. Despite the steering wheel never locking I still couldn't get the car started. Even unhooked the battery for 15min. So I am getting the royal treatment, overpayed for a tow, combined with taking it to a Infinity dealer. I have a mechanic/friend that works there and he is top notch, they even allow him to use the service area on weekends to do sidework, but I couldn't get in touch with him before the dealership caught wind of my situation. So I am going to be on the hook for a considerable amount of money. Reflecting on this I blame myself for procasting the fuse pull. I only have 58K miles on this car and it's been very reliable, but Nissan and Infinity has probably lost another potential customer. Believe me my mechanic does not like the 3.0 liter TT motor after having worked on numerious Q-50, 60s over the years. In his opinion the old VQ 3.7 is so much less problematic. Well I just had to get this off my chest. Looking forward to a CSC replacement down the road
