OH MY GOD - First UK cars are in showrooms and...
OH MY GOD!!!
I phoned my local dealer first thing this morning, because I'd heard the the first 370Z's are appearing in showrooms here in England. The woman who answered the phone told me they didn't have one, but that their High Performance Centre - 50 miles away - does have one. So, slightly annoyed because I could sense she was clueless, I said, "No love, I'm talking about the 370Z, not the GT-R." To cut a long story short, she passed me onto her colleague who apologised and said, "Yes, we do have a 370Z in the showroom!". Duhhhhhhhhh I immediately made up a story - told the wife I needed to go buy a tile cutter - and zoomed off to see the little beauty. Well here we go... OH MY GOD!!! That car is B E A U T I F U L! I've been drooling over your pics on this forum for over six months now, but NOTHING - REPEAT NOTHING - prepared me for how different the 370 is from the 350z. Wow - and the more I looked at it the more I fell in love with it Photos DO NOT DO JUSTICE TO THIS CAR'S BEAUTY. That car is GORGEOUS - GORGEOUS - GORGEOUS The model they have in the showroom is the lovely metallic grey, GT pack, auto trans (unfortunately) The styling lines are lovely - especially the subtly sweeping curve from the door A-pillar along the bonnet to the headlight - W O W The rear wheel arches are lovely, the general sweep of the side line is lovely, the squatness is lovely, the lowness, the wheels are so fine (and just the right size), the front and rear are so lovely, the cabin is really nice. The wing mirrors are SO much bigger - didn't realise this until today. In the UK we get rear fog light, rear windscreen wiper, trunk cover thingy, electrically folding mirrors as standard. I am having a test drive on Tuesday pm - and the sales guy is young/enthusiastic, so hopefully it will be a better experience than my last one at that place! So, until I've driven the beast on Tuesday all I can say is that I walked out of the dealership, turned the corner, saw my BELOVED 350Z (that I was going to keep until I died) and it looked just a bit old and ordinary (sob sob, boo hoo). oh - and I bought a tile cutter ps - the salesman is being difficult about doing a deal, so he may lose a sale! He also said, "Don't suppose you'd want a GT-R, would you?" and I immediately told him not to be daft, but thinking about it - and knowing a bit about the GT-R - and seeing the Z - No, I actually would PREFER the 370Z over the GT-R

Why do you guys get electrically folding mirrors standard? It's not even an option here, and it isn't on the upscale Infiniti G37 either. Is parking really tight over there? I can't imagine it would have anything to do with driving on the wrong side of the road.

Parking IS tight, due to the ridiculous width of parking bays these days - but all Z owners know that you park over in the far corner of the car park anyway. ...and as for driving on the wrong side of the road, being left-handed, it's totally natural for me to have my knob in my left hand

parking is super duper tight, cars park a bit on the side walk, when driving down the roads and you see a car coming towards you. you'd have to pull in a spot or driveway to let the oncoming car pass. |

But yeah, TS, the 370 to some isn't gorgeous until they see it in person. It isn't photogenic to some. I thought it was drop-dead gorgeous when I first saw sneak peaks of it online last December. In person it's even better. There are angles and distances from where I stand to look at my 370 and think it's a little awkward looking, however. But the car is gorgeous to me, it looks like a voluptuous chick in a bikini from its rear fender wells. |

Nice one Purist - I thought the smiley would have given it away. As for you, edeeZee, from which angles do you think the Z looks a little awkward? I couldn't find any. I'll do more of a write-up on Tuesday, after my first test drive. Edit - just to prove I'm not lying... The ridiculous thing is that they are trying to charge over £33,000 (more than $54,000) for this auto with satnav!!!! Ridiculous!

Just a little dull this Sunday morning in uptown Chicago.
EDIT: Maybe more like very dull, seeing how obvious it was... ugh...

One other off topic question. What is the deal with license plates in the UK? Do they stay with the car forever? I like to watch that show, "Wheelers Dealers", and whenever they buy a car they keep the same plates on it when they buy it and sell it. I also noticed that the Z you saw already has license plates on it, but it hasn't been sold yet.

You can buy private plates direct from the DVLA (it's fun to go to their website and see how many rude/disgusting ones you can create and get approved). In case you're interested, here's the link - CLICK HERE ...or you can buy one of many existing private plates from one of many dealers - things like "GB 1" would sell for THOUSANDS of pounds. Personally I think they are a rip off. Here's another link - CLICK HERE The car in the showroom is their demonstrator - possibly they have 'pre-registered' it and I suppose they will sell it 'cheaper' in a few months time, because it already has one owner. Edit - The last dealer I bought from managed to get me a plate with a Z in it - nice dealer

When you stand close in front of it, maybe a foot away, and you look from its nose to the rear end...the 370 looks kind of "chubby" and sits a tad high. I'm aware that the 19"s attribute to this, thus the car needs to be lowered with maybe Eibachs or something.
But another awkward angle is when you look at its rear end at an angle, its *** looks kind of fat...damn, this is making me percieve a car as incarnate and sexual. But for gorgeous angles, when you look squarely at its profile, from say, 10 meters away, IT'S ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! The nose actually looks long echoing the 240Z's silohuette. The 370 is so voluptuous. |
