There is a recall for 2009-2010 Z's. Go to your dealer and ask for the replacement. If he says you have to pay for it, contact Nissan Customer Service and tell them. It should cost you nothing, no co-pay, zero, nada. If dear wants some money , again contact Nissan Customer Service.

Default Part failed AGAIN!

So once again, just under 2 years later, the part that was replaced failed yet again. I talked with Nissan and they said that they will not cover the cost this time. Needless to say I am LIVID. I am told by the service department that the part that was installed last time was revision D, which is supposed to be the new one that fixes this problem.
So, if you have had this fixed, or if you have not, PULL THE FUSE RIGHT NOW. Or else you will be stuck with a $1100 bill.

Can you pull the fuse after the fact (after the failure occurs)?

IF you can get the internal switches in the right position, pulling the fuse will work. Bang on the ESCL with your fist, a rubber mallet, &c until the locking pin moves enough to actuate the switches and you can start the car. Without turning the car off (have the IPDM pulled beforehand), pull the fuse. Voila!

This is 100% covered by the recall. Enter your VIN here: Nissan Recalls | Nissan USA to be sure. Once the info pops up, print it and bring to dealer for reference. They can also look up the recall at the dealer.

No open recalls came up, lol but the vin # is coming up as a 350z. I rather do anything in this world then deal with the ******** in service tomorrow! Only positive is i have the silver extended warranty. But i cant even justify the $100 deductible for something that is 100% out of my control.

^Tell your mom or dad to raise hell at the dealership and nissan corp. It is a recall part that you should not having to pay a dime out of pocket.

^If VIN is not in recall # sequence, then it will not qualify for recall. I have a 2011 like louiey370z and it was not part of recall.

Did you try contacting nissan? I might do what Clifford did and email them with my receipt and everything and see if they send me a check or something, or would I not qualify for that?

Default I got hit too!

I have a late 2010 base model and the steering lock failed - dealer said they couldn't get it covered under warranty, and that the ESCL was the "upgraded" part. I called Nissan Customer service and a week later they said they wouldn't help - I hung up on the guy I was so pissed. $1,200+ down the drain! I guess I'll pull the fuse, now. My local dealer thankfully let me keep a loaner for the week, until I ran out of time waiting for NISSAN to decide not to cover it, got it replaced.
