HOW MANY MORE STEERING LOCK THREADS ARE THERE GOING TO BE. GEEZ.

We get it! There's been a lot of issues with this and yes there is a recall. I just didn't think that every single person was going to post about it. Better yet let's start a another thread. "How many have had there oil changed at the dealer". Enough already. And no, no one pissed in my Cheerios this morning.

When I took the Z out of storage last week to get it ready for Spring the dreaded key light was on and it wouldn't start. The same day I got the recall letter in the mail and made an appointment at the dealership (great timing). Thank god I visit the forums because I saw that if you tap the steerling wheel lock, you might get it to start once or twice. Lucky for me it started and I got it to the dealership without needing a tow.

Took them about a week to get the part but they installed in with REV-D and everything works fine.

I got my notice about a month ago but I pulled my fuse awhile back, I don't see a point in getting a new one installed. I wish I could cash in on the recall though as a credit or something

Got mine done couple weeks ago. Plan to now pull fuse and replace fuse if I ever sell. In case of eventual sale, I don't want a new owner to not have the benefit of the fix. Besides, I got a free hand car wash out of it!

Just took my to the dealer this morning and found out mine wasn't included in the campaign. Guess my build date of June 2010 already had the fix.

Mine was a June 2010 build also, and not part of the recall. I still don't trust it not to fail.

Default Just got hit with the steering wheel lock failure

Went to go pick up a friend to eat some breakfast. Got in the car, brake down, pushed the start button. Nothing happened. Got my car towed after numerous attempts to free the damned lock. Got home and tried a different method where I would tap the unit itself. Surprisingly it worked and got to the acc position. Ended up pulling the fuse right after to make sure it would not happen again.
Car is fine now (neighbors probably think I'm crazy starting my car and turning it off so many times). If you're thinking why not take it to the dealership. It is because despite the fact that I have a 2010, it isn't among the list of VINS approved for the recall. HOWEVER if you are one of those like me that didn't get on that list. You can give nissan a call and explain your situation. Good chances that they will approve your VIN for a SLU replacement.
TLDR- steering lock failed, fixed it by tapping then pulling fuse. Car is good. Now to fix my leaking rear diff.

Thanks for sharing the story with us and glad you eventually could sort it out. Just curious, what version of SLU you have on your car? RevC or RevD?

Default Thank you!

Thank you to the contributors on this thread. After reading the warnings I became concerned every time I started my car and heard that lock.

I pulled the fuse yesterday with the help of the members here. It is now living in my center console like others have posted here.

One thing that did throw me was the delay I experienced when starting the car afterwards. I guess that is the time allowed for the lock to slide which is silent now?

Default Replacement Time

Yes it was replacement time for my 09, I just hit 20K when I went in for the warranty replacement. I was getting nervous last year after the lock started to became famous as obvious recall in waiting. 615 is what it would of cost me had it happen real early in this cars life.

Ok guys, I had a strange issue going on. I have a REV C steering lock on my 09. I'm assuming the original owner had it replaced at some point. Anyways, I removed the fuse last summer just to be on the safe side. All was well until I started to get a long pause each time I hit the start button. I would say a good 3 seconds before it would start. Didn't really think much of it.

So after a couple months is when the strange problem started to occur. Basically when I would push the start button, nothing. On the display it would show the "no key" symbol and the fob port would start flashing. So the only way to start the car would be by sticking the key in the port and it would start fine with no issues.

It has been doing this for months. Sometimes it will start after pushing the button, sometimes only when I put the key in the port. Sometimes if I pushed the start button multiple times it would finally start. It was like my car couldn't read the key unless it was plugged into the fob.

So I decided to just put the fuse back in and see if that had anything to do it with. I was a little hesitant though because it had been disengaged for almost a year, and I didn't want to take a chance of it locking up on me. Luckily a forum member was selling his REV D lock for super cheap. I bought it up quick, installed it today, put the fuse back in.... and NO starting issues at all. It starts on the first hit of the button like its supposed to!

So I don't know if this is an isolated incident, maybe other people are having the same issue.
