Recall
Thought I would let everyone know that I received in the mail last night my service campaign recall notice for the electronic steering lock. Keep and eye out for yours in the mail and make sure your car is registered with Nissan. You should be able to go into your local Nissan dealership and let them know you have that year vehicle that has the problem and they will replace it free of charge. If you had to pay to have it replaced you just have to have Nissan confirm its the updated part and call the North American Nissan number to receive reimbursement. 1-800-647-7261. Make sure you have your VIN handy. Its about time they recalled this stupid part.

I'd almost drive to the dealer, pop the hood, put it back in, then hand the car off. Or just let them do it. |

So mine went out at 56,782 miles on 11/06/2012 and had to have it towed to my dealer, who replaced the steering lock assembly for $973. The new part number was 48700-JF00D.
Fast forward to this month when I called Nissan to see if they would honor a full refund for me as there was a voluntary recall on the part. I am still in that process but it looks like they are going to do so. While on the phone, the rep told me that I needed to go to the dealer and have my steering lock replaced again since the part that they replaced my original one with (48700-JF00D) was also defective. So yesterday I took it into the dealer and they replaced my lock mechanism once again, this time with part #D8700-JF00D and for no charge. Does anyone know what the difference is and what rev this newest part is? Do I assume from the "D" in the first part of the number that is is rev D?

Thanks for the info. The dealer seemed to make it very clear that I needed to replace 48700-J00D with D8700-J00D so I'm a bit confused. I asked him what revision of part they were using and he didn't seem to know; he referred me his bulletin that identified the new part number that was supposed to be used. Hmm...

Just an update. I called Nissan about this recall today and it does not apply to my 2010. I have an 08/10 build with Rev C in it. I believe there were a couple others that had 06/10 builds that this recall didn't cover either. I'm not concerned as I have my fuse pulled- but wanted to let you guys know it apparently does not apply to all 2010 Zs.
