Well, so far it appears Nissan doesn't want to reimburse me for the expense of the repairs.
Total repairs were about $367. Not too bad. But Nissan so far has declined any offers to help with the expense.

Pull the fuse before it happens again.

Did you at least try beating on the steering column before you let the dealer bend you over like that? Like SouthArk says, GO PULL THE FUSE before it happens again

So, it finally happened. My original SLU failed last Thursday (last week). I had it towed to the stealership where my car goes for services. Next day I get a call from my service advisor advising me that the SLU had failed and needed to be replaced. Fine, I'll pay to play. The part comes in the following Monday. I get a call from my service advisor saying the car is ready. I drive home no problem. I drive it on Tuesday no problem. I drive on Wednesday no problem. I drive to the grocery store on Thursday (today), went in to grab a few things, come out, start up the car, the intelligent key system warning light comes on and the car won't start. The service department supposedly replaced the orignal SLU with the latest and greatest (sic) SLU model #48700-9N00B. That's gotta be a record. Failure a few days later after replacement. Methinks they didn't replace the SLU or they received a lemon SLU from Nissan's warehouse. Now, let's see if the stealership will reimburse me for the second towing charge. Waiting for them to "fix" the problem so I can sell the car. Did anyone else beat me for having a second failure within four days since replacement??

I believe the most current SLU replacement is no steering lock at all. I think they even have a Nissan part that fits in the same place as the original steering lock, but contains no locking mechanism whatsoever. Sounds like you got the wrong part if they installed another locking mechanism prone to failure. They are all prone to failure by the way. I could be wrong, but I believe I've read this information in the forum quite awhile back

Would you happen to know the part number?

IF ANY OF YALL ARE STUCK ON "LOCK" AND CANT EVEN GET TO ACCESSORY/IGNITION

here's my way of solving it:

The way I fixed it and got my car back running was just simply hotwiring the damn thing and doing a ghetto steering lock delete by pulling the steering lock fuse located in the fuse box.

Keep in mind you can't just pull the fuse and call it a day and start the car. There's a step by step technique for this and if you don't follow it exactly, pulling the fuse won't work.

Here's the video if any of you can't get to accessory/ignition:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLPTNm0xxy4

Basically you gotta hotwire the car by grounding one of the pink wires in the module to get it out of lock.

While leaving the pink wire grounded to metal, cycle through lock, accessory and ignition one time just to verify that the hotwire/grounding technique works. Then on the second time LEAVE IT AT ACCESSORY, after that THEN you an pull the fuse.

After pulling the fuse, go back to the steering lock module, ground the pink wire again and put it on ignition and give it a few seconds. Keep it grounded!

While still leaving it grounded, cycle through lock, accessory, and ignition like 4 times.

After that your car should be able to start.

The reason why I went with this is because I didn't want to take my car to the stealership. Whether I could get it fixed for free or have to pay the $1200 to get it fixed, I read somewhere that this issue is still bound to happen later on the line even after you fixed it.

So to save the headaches, I just deleted my steering lock by pulling the fuse. Problem solved.

Feel free to email me at santosjoel1208@gmail.com if any of yall need like a step by step walk through for this.

Default Question about Steering Lock issue - locking on or off?

I have my 2010 Z in my garage for winter. Keeping a trickle charger on it, and crank it up every few days, same as I do every winter.

Today, ignition was stuck in LOCK. Both key fobs work fine to lock/unlock the car, battery seems fine. Cannot get ignition out of LOCK.

Found this thread, and thought it might be my issue. Tried smacking the Steering Wheel Lock box, didn't do anything.

I noticed that I can move the steering wheel with the car off, the steering wheel is not locked at all.

From what I have been reading, the "Steering Wheel Lock" issue is the opposite, the steering wheel is stuck in lock. I'm thinking mine is stuck in unlock???

Does that make sense? Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

Look underneath again at the module then find the pink wire, stick a pink in there then use a wrench to ground it to the metal. While you have it grounded, have someone press on the push start to see if it gets out of lock. If it does then it is a steering lock problem.

can you just keep the pink wire always grounded to keep it unlock at all time?

you can but you’re really just better off pulling the fuse since it’ll get rid of all complications lol.
