Here's what I saw on my end as I saw my own breath for a while inside the cabin

[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/wjrBeTG.jpg[/ IMG]
  • Doors unlock fine
  • Headlights work
  • No noise when I push the button
  • Just that "key" light comes on
  • No change if I insert into the fobgina.

Just had AAA tow me to my dealership and they are performing the recall first before they try anything else.

Here's the work order they gave me while I wait here in the waiting room. You can see the recall number is the same as the one listed in this thread and if that doens't work, they have a $99 minimum for diagnostic after that.

Thanks to all the people who bit the bullet before it was recalled and for making this thread which has gotten WAY too big, but I was well-informed about the issue before it happened to me. Never thought the day would come..

yes that is exactly the symptoms of mine that failed on Monday. dealership replaced my steering lock under warranty. works fine now.

Update: yes the symptoms I listed above were fixed with the replacement/recall steering lock. Dealership replaced it and I'm picking it up today. They cleaned the outside of the car, too, but it's raining out

Mine just failed. I have 55k miles on the 2010 and luckily it's in my garage. Nissan is not charging for this correct?

Correct. Just go to the dealer and they should be able to take care if you at this point.

Took the car to the dealership today and they got it started by using a hammer on the box. They said everything will be covered but there is a backorder on the part. Has anyone been successful on getting Nissan to provide a rental vehicle for their vehicle being in the shop for a long period of time?

I got a new Altima as a dealer rental for a week while my CSC was being replaced but I have the Gold Warranty plan and the rental car was free. If it's warranty work, you should be able to get one but it won't hurt to ask

Mine is out of warranty but it's bs if I'm without a car for a week. Nissan needs to step up and give a rental. I put in a call to corporate and am expecting a call tomorrow.

Don't even bother. Pull the fuse and be done with it. the replacement part has recorded failures as well. Far fewer albeit, but still has failures. The newest model Zs don't even have the part installed which is a pretty good indicator of how useful the part actually is.

I have yet to see anyone say "Damn, I really wish I hadn't pulled that fuse." Only headaches dealing with a failed steering locks in here.

Pull the fuse and you will only be without your car for the hour or so it will take them to replace the ESCL when the replacement comes in. When the dealer replaces the ESCL they will probably want to put the fuse back in for testing purposes - ask them to remove the fuse when done. See link in my sig for more info.

I'll ask them about it when they call me back with the status of the back ordered part. They claim that no one had been back even with the new units with same issue.

The newest revision ESCL seems to be more reliable but, as 4r3s points out, there have been some failures.

How many 370Z ESCLs has your shop worked on? I'm guessing not enough to have a good statistical sample.

The ESCL is, IMNSHO, pretty worthless to start with (and, apparently, Nissan agrees as they no longer install ESCLs on 370Zs). Why risk another failure for a part that doesn't really do anything? Pull the fuse. If it weren't for the "handshaking" signals that the ESCL has to present for the car to start, I'd remove mine* completely.

* Edit: my ESCL box, not the fuse. Thanks to 4r3s for pointing out the ambiguity.

Default 2010 370z wont start

I have a 2010 370z that would not start , I change the battery that didn’t work. Had it toured to the Nissan shop ,the next day it stated for them so they called and said come and get . When I got in it to leave it did it again . Is this part a recall that Nissan is replacing?
