When I went to insure my 175hp Sentra Spec-V from a broker I was told it was a "Race car" and the premium would be high... Really? That was a long time ago now I have Geico and with one speeding ticket I pay about $180 a month check them out.

A super car? Left almost speechless I said "Thanks" and hung up.

If I remember correctly doesn't the General and his penguin buddy ride in a Corvette?
Op, how old are you? What is your driving record like? Maybe the insurance lady meant to say its a "sports" car and we can't insure you because you are high risk.. . ie young, tickets/wrecks on driving record.

I shopped around most of the major companies when I bought the Z, as my old policy was almost up for renewal (progressive) I ended up transfrerring all to Erie.
State Farm, and allstate were a close second. The general, gieco, Progressive, and most others were about $500 high. Nationwide apparently is NOT on my side, as they were $1100 higher than Erie. After the first year, they lowered my premium by $250 as well.
Of course it will differ for everyone, but I'm dealing with... Single/46/clean record
2 homes (ones a rental property)
The Z (full coverage 50/100,000
2010 Malibu (full coverage 50/100,000
1999 cherokee
2003 neon
1996 saturn sl2
1993 Toyota corolla
Fiance,
23 year old daughter
two teenage daughters
One Puggle
Two Cats
$270 month The Z accounts for $44 of it.
Now that I see it all laid out, I think I need a drink!!

Insurance all depends on where you live, in the past I lived in a smaller big city , then moved to a rural area and I was able to stay with either of the big old companies like state farm, allstate, etc.

But once I moved out west to a big metropolitan city with more than 2 million ppl plus, I was forced to go with Progressive for the motorcycles and Gieco for the cars, all the other companies mentioned here were 20 -40 % higher than Geico or Progressive.

If you are currently owning a standard car and now bought a sports car and your insurance jumps up a lot, its more than likely you are under 30 yrs old, unmarried and you are now driving a more expensive vehicle.

When I bought the 370Z my premium only went up about $150 more every 6 months, as compared to buying a new standard family sedan.

Nationwide chanrges me ordinary rates for my Z---$60.00 for full coverage. But I have a clean record and I'm old.

They fired all the American workers and brought in foreign workers made them teach the people replacing them there job or be fired with no package for 3 months. The foreign workers are from India and work at low wages and can be replaced easily. All workers at StateFarm are Indian. The are ripe for illegal hiring practices. Stay way clear of StateFarm they will deny claims and or just refuse to pay you when incidents happen like Katrina, Ike, Sandy.

I know first hand many people that worked at StateFarm this is the information along with news reports that I have been informed about and my step mother works for another insurance company and she hears all the stories from other people that have left StateFarm and moved over to her company.

If you have StateFarm I would check out a known reputable company and lose them before they deny you or drop you for some made up B.S.

Me I have had the same policy since 1982 with Allstate and never any problems with being dropped. I have had tickets, wrecks, boat and house repairs due to damage. They did not raise my rates or drop me. When Katrina, Ike and they rest you did not hear them denying claims and dropping people for no reason.

I am 23, married, been in 2 head on collisions when I was in high school, both my fault, last speeding ticket was when I was 19. Esurance is pretty damn cheap for my record, I pay $207 a month full coverage.

62 years old with a clean driving record, no wrecks. Safe driver status on my DL.

What I find really amazing is that Allstate wanted more to insure my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse than they want to insure my 2013 Z! $1300 for the Z, $1700 for the Eclipse! AND MY Z IS A SUPER CAR!

I work in a body shop,I wish people who have Geico In. Could be standing there when the adjuster from Geico is talking/and making decision about their cars.

Default Cheap Insurance may be no insurance

In the early 80's I bought the cheapest insurance I could find as I had no money and we have the highest insurance rates in the nation. Champion Insurance. Turns out the company was bankrupt and the insurance commissioner was covering that up. The insurance commissioner went to prison (what would the federal prison suppliers do without Louisiana politicians?) and many millions of claims were left unpaid. Guess who was personally liable for those claims? I was fortunate and had no accidents while I was covered by them but stopped shopping for low dollar insurance.

Insurance is just a contract and a contract is just a promise. Only as sound as the organization behind it. Been with Allstate over 30 years now and insurance on the Z was not disproportionately high compared to my Crown Vic that I was driving before--but still higher than if I lived some place where tort lawyers don't own the courthouse. I have had a couple of accidents and Allstate kept me out of the courthouse which is what I pay them for.

My wife and I use travelers now, every one else seemed pretty expensive compared to what we are paying now. We have a 2009 Z and a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T, we have full coverage on both of them plus $10,000 custom parts protection on the Z, and we pay about $650 every six months. Other companies were anywhere from $750 to over $1000 for 6 months. Actually one thing that was cool was that when I called them to add the custom parts coverage it didn't raise my rate at all. My wife just totaled her Civic a few months ago and it didn't affect our rates either, so I've been pretty happy with them so far.

I will say this about Allstate, when I was younger I had them covering my '91 ford explorer. There was a local office that i would go to and pay my bill every month, so I got to now the people there, and they also knew my parents since they used them as well. Someone broke into my truck one night and stole my system, worth MAYBE $500-$600. When I called the local Allstate they agreed to replace it for me, and they found out that the speakers and amp I had were discontinued. They ended up getting me top of the line Rockford Fosgate equipment worth about $2000. It was so loud that I had to go back to them a few months later to have my rear windshield replaced after I cracked it with the bass

Forgot to mention I'm 30, the wife is 29, we both have clean records for at least 10 years.

Sent from my iPizzle using magic and new fangled science stuff

I've been with State Farm for 10 years. I've had multiple claims (non of them my fault) and I've never had a single issue. They've always been prompt and fair with me. Not to mention, they're much cheaper than most other companies here. And by the way... I live in south Louisiana.

Oh and since I guess you didn't look, Allstate has a 78% disapproval rating on the site you posted a link to. How much extra are you paying for the 2% extra approval?

Since the pages are headed "Consumer Complaints & Reviews", I'm a bit surprised that the disapproval ratings for both companies aren't closer to 100%.

From what I have heard from friends and acquaintances that use Allstate, it is a good company. It has it's problems, like every other insurer has, but most of what I hear is good. If I ever need to leave State Farm, Allstate is one of the first I will check out.
