I live in a far colder climate, can completely understand the need to switch. I just don't like putting any decently nice car through winters (EVO or Z) so I drive an old forester during the cold months.

Should be fun modding the **** outta that evo tho, hopefully you don't blow the engine. Seems to be the fate for most modded turbo 4bangers.

If everyone made a new thread every time there was a slight shift in focus on the conversation we'd have a ton of garbage threads... oh wait. I mean honestly, a shift from "thinking about trading" to "officially trading"?

As for your question, I don't think you'd need him to be there but the easiest way to find out is to just call up a dealership and ask. Sometimes it's easier just to get the answer from the source instead of asking a bunch of people who don't actually work at a dealership and aren't in the same locale as you. Someone from a different region may not need a cosigner to be there and then when you show up you're SOL. So far as I know these aren't federal regulations so state by state laws are going to be different.

So don't tell them who you are or what car you drive? Just ask them if you need to have your faja with you if he cosigned your lease/loan for the car but the title is under your name.... It's really not difficult.

Infact, you don't even need to call the dealership you're going to trade at. Hell call one from another county. I mean there are so many options here I don't understand what the problem is.

Get a Power of Attorney for your dad specifically for the car. Then, you can sign his name when you decide to sell. Otherwise, any dealer/lender (and, if he's on the title - the state) will require his signature to release the lien for payoff (and the title transfer if his name is on it).

Edit for clarification:
If a company (dealer or lender) is going to pay off your loan, and you and your father are both on the loan, they will require both his and your signature to sign what's called a 10-day Per Diem Payoff Letter (generally - generic term). It's a document that states how much your lending company will accept to clear the amount owed on the loan.

From the payoff, it takes an average company (BB&T, Wells-F, etc) 10-15 business days to clear the payment - even if done via wire transfer or cashier's check. At that point, the release of title' is performed. If buying from a dealer, at this point, they will take your keys, have you sign a Bill of Sale, and you're free of the car. If buying from an individual, and they don't have a title in hand, you could wait another 20-30 days for the release and title transfer in the following info before you have a title in your hands).

Depending on your state, the title can be held by your bank or by the state. If the release of title is done by the state, then there are two options, written or electronic releases. The release itself once received only takes a day or two, it's the method (elect or paper) that will add more days to the process. Depending on the buying company, they may have the title mailed to you or themselves from the DMV as their check will clear the old loan, not a check from you.

If your father's name is also on the title, he will need to sign it with you (at the bottom) to sell the vehicle.

So, all in all, getting your dad to sign a PoA may cost $45-$125 for the document fees, or the new lender may have you both sign them for the company to forge your names, but at some point, both you and your dad are legally bound to the loan. If his name is on the title, then he is also legally bound to the state registration for the vehicle. The PoA will allow you to sign as him for release of title, loan payoff, and (if applicable) the title transfer.

That is the best method of buying from a dealer, always talk trade-in last.

That said, I think you still owe too much on the Z to trade it for that evoX, but that's just my opinion and in the end you will do what you want either way. I would just slap winter rims/tires on the Z and be good to go. Your winters aren't as bad as ours, and I plan on picking up a Z as a DD, with some good winter rims/tires for the winter months.

Good luck with whatever choice you make, hope it works out for you.

I can't believe you tried to drive in snow with the stock summer performance tires lol then you were like "the handling on this Z sucks in the winter! I'm getting an Evo!"

I almost bought an STi myself.. but the Z is SO much greater, sexually.

I dunno about 2005 but the 2007 limited definitely looks a little more "mature".

The "boy racer" comment is likely just jealously over all that turbo powa.
