Default Car Allowance Rebate System (C.A.R.S)

Anyone hear about this? From the VW webpage:
How much do I get?

Passenger Car Light-Duty Truck Large
Light-Duty Truck
(6,000-8,500 lbs)
Work Truck
(8,500-10,000 lbs)
Minimum Fuel Economy for New Vehicle 22 mpg (EPA combined) 18 mpg (EPA combined) 15 mpg (EPA combined)
$3,500 Voucher Mileage improvement of at least 4 mpg Mileage improvement of at least 2 mpg Mileage improvement of at least 1 mpg or trade-in of a Work Truck Trade-in must be at least pre-2002
$4,500 Voucher Mileage improvement of at least 10 mpg Mileage improvement of at least 5 mpg Mileage improvement of at least 2 mpg

How does it work?
The government is assisting consumers who want to give up their old gas-guzzlers for new, more fuel-efficient cars. Based on the differential of fuel-economy between your old car and the new VW you have your eye on, you could be in line for a credit worth up to $4500.

How is a credit different than a trade-in?
Unlike a trade-in where the value of your old car is put towards the purchase of a new car, a credit is money from the government to help you pay for a new, more fuel-efficient VW. In exchange, your old car will be destroyed as part of a national effort to remove low mileage vehicles from circulation.

Can I get more by trading in?
Depends on the condition, year, and mileage of your current car. Dealerships offer different trade-in values based on a variety of factors. Consult a dealer to determine the best course of action for your specific situation.

Which Volkswagen models qualify for the credit?
Practically every model in the Volkswagen lineup qualifies for C.A.R.S. See above chart for qualifying Volkswagen models. Visit CARS.gov - Car Allowance Rebate System - Home - Formerly Referred to as “Cash for Clunkers” for full program details.

Are there any additional offers to the program?
The best value of all is the Jetta TDI Clean Diesel, which could qualify you for up to a $4500 credit, plus an additional $1,300 federal tax credit†. Learn more about TDI Clean Diesel at TDItruthanddare.com.

*At participating dealers. See your participating dealer or CARS.gov - Car Allowance Rebate System - Home - Formerly Referred to as “Cash for Clunkers” for full program details.
**Excluding transportation, taxes, title, other options and dealer fees. Dealer sets actual price.

†Tax credit submitted under Notice 2006-9 and Internal Revenue Code, Section 30B relative to the Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI Sedan. Model year 2009. Available to taxpayers who purchase a qualified vehicle on or before December 31, 2010. Leased vehicles will not be eligible for the credit. Only a limited number of full tax credits are available. Please consult a tax professional for more information or go to Internal Revenue Service.
††Your mileage may vary.

I can't really find any other threads, but it's a moot point anyway as I it only applies to new cars rated at 22mpg combined or better and the Z is rated at 21 mpg.
