I do the same. 1/4 tank is actually my fill line. It's more than just an Emergency thing, it sucking dirt and crap into the fuel system from the bottom of the tank thing too. Granted, nowadays fuel pickups on gas tanks, fuel tanks and fuel systems are much better designed than in older cars, but it's a habit I cannot get out of. On the bright side, have never run out of gas.....

That's what I do. Gas stations are plentiful here, so no reason to really not keep gas in the tank. Running out is more poor planning than bad luck.

I grew up in the cornfields of Illinois. The closest gas station was 15 minutes away. My father had to make a few runs to the emergency room when I was growing up (1x mom in accident, 1x toe hit with mall, 1x bullet in my rib, 1x hydraulic oil in my eyes - time to get ambulance out to us and back would be incredible); this is what he used as examples why you should always make certain to be able to go at least 50 miles in any car, at any time.

Something I didn't really take into account when I mentioned I was 'indoctrinated' to always fill at 1/4 tank.

, always fill up at 1/4 tank. To be honest, i filled up yesterday at 1 dot below the 1/2 mark on my gas guage. Gas was the cheapest it's been all year for my favorite one and only gas i've used in all of our family vehicles for about 15 years now Shell V-power, so i decided to go ahead and fill her up, since my girl Vanity is my weekend toy.
