Default Maintenance so far!

i've talked about getting the new Z for some time. And it looks like i may do it soon. I kind of want to wait for the next gen Z but i hear that they are going to use a turbo 4. I prefer the v6.

Any how, what has the maintenance been on the Z's. Especially people that first bought it when it came out.

Any surprises on certain maintenance that seem expensive?

I don't think Z's maintenance is expensive compare to Bimmer, Audi, Porsche and so on. No need to worry.

The 370Z ain't exactly cheap-to-keep, but it's not too bad. IMNSHO, no worse than most other cars from the last 10 years or so. There have been some oil consumption problems; usually occur/fixed under warranty. The Steering Lock Unit is a common problem that is expensive to fix out of warranty (~$1000-1300), but is easy to prevent. Quite a few people have had a problem with the rear hatch opening properly, but, even if out of warranty, it's not a biggie ($45 or so for replacement hatch springs that are very easy to DIY).

Read through this site, other 370Z sites, and the NTSHA site for more info.

But the 370Z is only four years old, so who knows what tomorrow may bring?

I'm been very pleased with my 2009 - I'd buy another. Can't say the same about my local dealer, but I've found another that seems to be much better.

This is all speculation & won't be known until deep into next year if they decide to change the design for 2014

Maintenance isn't bad, it's the aftermarket parts that will blow your wallet wide open.

My Z has 58k on it, and I've had very few issues. The only significant problem I had was when the clutch master & slave cylinders crapped out on me when I was four hours from home. (Something a couple people have had happen on here.) For me it was under warranty (100k mile extra warranty) so it didn't cost me anything. The extra warranty for me was only $5/month, so I'd consider that if you're looking at a pre-owned one. You never know what the oaf did to it before you bought it.

Otherwise, I've only done regular maintenance. VQs are pretty bulletproof. I've had no oil consumption issues. That being said, you're going to pay more for regular maintenance than you will with, say, a Hyundai Elantra, which is great motivation to learn how to DIY.

And yeah, once you start modding you may have to take another job. It's addictive.

Why would they let the cat out of the bag so soon when they so recently released info & production on the 2013's with it's updates? To torpedo sales by basically saying don't buy this redesign we just finished because in 8 months you can have the new design? Manufactures hold onto info like that until late into the current model years sales, otherwise they would be stuck with cars or product they can not move. Add that to an already tough global economy & it would be a good way to kill profits. Nissan struggles enough financially already. All manufactures do the same, while some release info in July, others hold on until Oct or so. So at this point it is all speculation & wishful thinking

All I do is an oil change every 3,000 mi. with regular Mobil 1 oil (changing to Synthetic every 5,000 mi after 9,000 mile oil change. Nothing much different from what I do to my Altima. My car is base, stock (other than custom leather interior) and driven carefully and only on sunny days

everyone cares about reliability... then spends thousands of dollars on aftermarket parts, which are non-validated, non-warranty, limited testing, etc.. parts known to fail.

You are ignorant and hope you fix yourself. To say we can't have a reliable and modified vehicle is not correct. Depending on the company you purchase from, you can research their R&D methods, user experience with the product and these parts come with a limited warranty from the manufacturer of that product. You are making a blanket statement calling anyone who purchases an aftermarket part dumb because according to you, it WILL make the vehicle more unreliable. There are hundreds here that can attest to a reliable vehicle that's been modded.

Never once has my car abandoned me, refused to operate, nor has ANY aftermarket part I've purchased and installed fail. This is not to say there aren't any issues with some modded vehicles as we know there are, this is me telling you, I'm calling you out on a stereotypical blanket statement that is misguided.
