Question High-Pitch noise in the car

Hi, Everyone!

I brought a 370Z to my home last night.
It surely is a GREAT car.

However, there was a almost constant high-pitch noise from the car.
Does any one have same problem?

I don't think it's coming from engine or exhaust.
It was definitely not a rattling noise.
I wish I can describe it more accurately, but I can't.

If anyone has same problem, or how to resolve the matter,
please let me know. Thank you.

Others have reported this, and in at least one case, it was diagnosed as the ECU which is mounted behind the glove box..Warranty fix

Thank you for the response.
I'll listen closely to the glove box.

Do a search. Enter "high pitched noise" for your search string. It'll give you the other threads.

Funny, I drove mine to work today without the radio on (hadn't driven it w/o the radio on before - just wanted to hear the engine for a change), and I could hear a barely noticeable high-pitched whine/squeal. I'll have to see if it's coming from the glove box area.

I've read the past threads on this. Does everyone eventually get this noise? I didn't hear it when I test drove the car at the dealer.

Mine has this noise as well... hasn't bothered me enough to look for a fix.

First of all, thank you for everyone's response.
I did find the many threads afterwards, and can you tell me how can I close this thread?

The only high-pitched whine I have experienced is from the AC. If a vent is closed all the way it makes a high pitched whistling noise. Very annoying. My 350z didn't do it.

My 370Z started to have the engine bay high-pitch sound. I traced it to the area of the ECU (or ECM = same damn thing). It reminds me of a high-voltage sound that is typical of electonic circuit boards that have developed a cold solder joint (crack). Once the board heats up enough to expand the solder the joint/crack gets temporarily bridged by the solder which then will cause a voltage disparity which produces such a high-pitch noise. Once the board cools off sufficiently to contract the solder the joint/crack sides move back into a gap shape which disconnects the flow of voltage in that joint which will cause the high-pitch noise to stop.

A batch of bad ECU boards may have made it through to Nissan which may have a weak spot which could allow a cold solder joint to occur over time due to constant expansion and contraction.

I, in no way am doubting your knowledge of cars.
The September issue of Car&Driver, has the ECU on top of the transmission.
Is there more than one?

There are several, but you're right. The ECU behind the glove box is referred to as the BCM (Body control module) which controls everything that the ECM (engine) does not control. Earlier posters described this location as the ECM, more accurately it should be the BCM..
