Freeing it up is the best bet, don't get shy when it comes to hitting the unit itself (just think about the $500 you might have to spend, that should allow you to hit it hard enough.) With a little patience it should free right up and then you can pull the fuse/cut the wire to your heart's content.

Not only would it be useless, it would be damaging if you cut the wire! you would then have to reconnect the wires in order to get the new one to unlock so you could then disable it again in the unlocked position!

I have my fused pulled out and no adverse affects have occured. There are many members that have the same thing done to their cars, and nothing has happened to them that I know of. The only thing that does happen, rarely, the car will delay a bit before starting, not more than 3 seconds though.

want to add that this inconsistent delay was also observed with my ACTIVE steering lock installed, so this might be normal operation. the delay was like maybe 1-2 sec max and it does this on occasion.

UPDATE: I just heard from nissan this morning. I pleeded my case to them stating that I was unaware that this part is ONLY covered under the bumper to bumper warrenty. As my car has already passed the 36,000 mile warrenty coverage, it will cost me $1135,29 to get my car back!!! That is with a discount too.

Steering lock module: $850
Labor: $300
Re-programming: $400
towing: $185

REMOVE YOUR FUSE BEFORE YOU END UP WITH THE SAME BILL!!!!

Yes from rev2 to rev4 there needs to be programming? Also I accidentally rolled my windows down from the key fob when the steering lock went out. I could not put the windows back up do to the fact that the ignition didnt move from off. So they had to program the window timimg also.

I had an 09 and I cut the wire on my 12 I removed the fuse, I do not know if the lock issue is still there for the 12 model so I just pulled it.
I would call Nissan USA and see if they could do something that is a lot of cash flow to pay for something that happens a lot.

really? that's very odd.

you can reset the windows (after steering lock replaced) by just rolling it down all the way, hold the switch for 5 sec, then roll it up all the way and hold the switch for 5sec.
