Default Probably a dumb/noob question..

What's up everyone...

This is probably a very dumb/noob question but I can't seem to find any information on this..

I understand that the SynchroRev Match system will match the RPM's automatically on a MT when you downshift.. I'm cool with this function..

Now unrelated to SynchroRev, I know of some cars where the MT system does not require to take the foot out of the accelerator when you step on the clutch for shifting gears... So that means you can be accelerating in 1st gear, for example, step on the clutch and engage 2nd gear without ever taking your foot out of the accelerator...

Is this possible in the 370Z or is it the traditional clutch/accelerator balance game..??

All Mt's require you to use the clutch, or at least require you to release the throttle. You are referring to manual shifting auto's.

I drive with S-Mode off because I am always putting my car into neutral while cruising. The auto revs get annoying. It's only useful when you have to downshift a lot. I once went past a cop giving a ticket. I put it in neutral because i wanted to be inconspicuous and the car reved like crazy and the cop looked up at me. I never want that to happen again.

Thats funny, but the exhaust isnt that loud anyway.

That's true. It could get loud when you rev on the streets with no other cars around. It wasn't just one rev. It was multiple revs because I was moving the stick shift left and right (like gear checking; bad habit).

That's actually a good habit, just not when you pop out of neutral from 4th or 3rd with SRM. The thing just senses when you might go down, so I've actually just trained myself to move it to the right instead of the left.

OK... First off, this method of keeping the throttle more than 0% is called "No-Lift Shifting" AKA "Power Shifting".

This is easily done on cable-driven throttle bodies and on some newer cars with electronic "Fly-By-Wire" throttle bodies. I believe all cars since 2005 are fly-by-wire. For example, on my 2007 Solstice, you cannot power shift. The throttle body automatically closes if you try to power shift. But newer models now allow this.

With the syncrorev matching system on with the 370z, I wouldn't attempt this. With it off, I'm sure it's possible.

yea I do that a lot too, so I never have the S mode on. Also when I do have it on I still rev match since I'm not used to not doing it.

Sounds like bad shifting in general, like flatfoot shifting (same thing?)... but it is possible, although without a strong clutch or tranny (or both), something might break. If not those two, possibly a torque sensing diff or a bad driveshaft, even the connections, could break. But that also means in a car with high torque curves (linear like our Zs), you can basically chirp the tires constantly up to 2nd or 3rd gear. Pretty insane.

maybe you should try perfect shifting? :P Its actually pretty easy.. you shift without pushing the clutch in. No grinding, no problems (if you do it right that is)
