Well...

****. **** THIS ******* PIECE OF **** CAR. Spend 40k on a god damn car that won't ******* run. If I had gas left in my mower's gas can I'd douse this ******* car right now and burn it.

Yes the steering lock just happened.

I ripped the cowl panel off and the battery cover and yanked the fuse but unfortunately damage is done, won't start. Threw all the broken bits in the cab and its leaving on a wrecker. Nissan can have this ****

Do you still have the car in your possession? Or is it at the dealers right now? If you still have it try getting a hammer and tapping on the lock as you are turning the car on, some members have been able to get it to unlock one more time then they either pull the fuse or cut the wire.

here's two different ways to fix it if you do get it to unlock again......

TRY IT!!!!! (the tapping, but don't smash it cause your mad just be light)

I know many others have had it work, I am hoping it works for you to! GL:tup:

Red__Zed 11-18-2012 05:57 PM

This is such a well-documented issue at this point I would find it tough to fault the car.

Z-Girl 12 11-18-2012 05:57 PM

Sorry dude.

Trips 11-18-2012 06:01 PM

Keep a cool head and once all calm make either the attempt to see if the tapping works and if it does order a replacement steering lock.

Totally understand the frustration but a cooler needs to prevail

tapping didn't do anything. its gonna have to sit a while. hope it doesn't rain this week as i'm riding the fury to work

RoshDawg 11-18-2012 07:23 PM

Does insurance or Nissan take care of things when this happens? Any sort of compensation? That's sad to hear though I would be very upset as well.

LMBmikeZ 11-18-2012 07:24 PM

umm... I would say go out again in say 30-40 mins and try again see if you get lucky. Remember you have to be tapping before you hit the start button and keep tapping as you push the button (in case you were just tapping it a couple times and then hitting the button)

good to know, i'll try tomorrow when i'm less pissed and find a smaller hammer

insurance only covers accidental damage from collisions or other things similar. i was honestly thinking about torching it :icon18:

Oh man really? I would imagine it would be covered under warranty. I would go that route, if that doesn't work, lawyer up! Whatever you do though, resist the temptation to torch it! (unless you say someone else did it and call up insurance.. Just joking though. Don't do that..)

LMBmikeZ 11-18-2012 07:37 PM

Yep by tapping it while you push the button in will help to try and free the locked/seized gears while the power is applied to the little motor that is in the lock mechanism. You will be able to hear the lock disengage if it does work. The power will be trying to get it to turn and by tapping it you might be able to free it up just enough to get it to unlock one more time! Then if it does either cut the wire or pull the fuse ASAP don't do anything or touch anything else in the car!

It is covered by the 3 year/ 36k warranty.

MJB 11-18-2012 07:47 PM

If warranty doesn't cover it, I would just buy the part and install it yourself. There is a DIY steering lock thread on here.

LOCK SET-STEERING - 370Z (Z34) 2009+ :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com... Pretty pricey but I'm sure you'll save a couple hundred dollars installing it yourself.

:iagree:
If that's all the problems he's had than you really can't complain.

Or maybe you can.:icon14:

Japanjay 11-18-2012 08:16 PM

Feel lucky you made it too 400 shy of 100k with only that. I am on my thrid motor in my '09 and I am at 38k..... Even when this is finished I still love my car!

LMBmikeZ 11-18-2012 08:36 PM

Japanjay 11-18-2012 11:17 PM

Factory motor was changed with the original owner at 12.9k. I picked up car at 19k. Second motor was spent at 38k. Now at the third motor. Hopefully the last. Second motor was changed one month prior to the TSB on oil consumption being released. Still have no major complaints to be honest. If this new motor starts consuming oil, then it must just be how hard I drive the car, and then have to pay special attention to the oil level.

USINC97 11-19-2012 03:17 AM

Would the failure of the steering lock be covered under the extended warranty?

Astrosfan 11-19-2012 08:45 AM

im with ya bro

ive will have spent close to $4k by the end of the month fixing this damn car.

ac compressor $1400
steering lock $1300
syncros / new clutch plate ect.... $700

im selling it around the end of the year... theres no reason for a nissan to have this many problems

Wouldn't transmission work be covered under the powertrain warranty? Why did you have to come out of pocket for this? Also, you could have fixed the steering lock yourself for $500, and I've seen refurbished a/c compressors for around $400. Sorry to hear about the issues, but it sounds like you got hosed on these repair costs...

Yes, the syncros would be covered but replacing the clutch(pressure plate ect is not and is a wear item.)

Its a $40k car, im not putting a refurb ac in it... save that for your Geo Metro.
and im not putting the ac compressor in myself.

I could have changed the steering lock had know about it before

this is what it costs to own this car
