Yep by tapping it while you push the button in will help to try and free the locked/seized gears while the power is applied to the little motor that is in the lock mechanism. You will be able to hear the lock disengage if it does work. The power will be trying to get it to turn and by tapping it you might be able to free it up just enough to get it to unlock one more time! Then if it does either cut the wire or pull the fuse ASAP don't do anything or touch anything else in the car!

did not work. taking it into the shop to be fixed. i don't have the time/ patients to mess with this. guess i'm driving the highlander for now...

Wouldn't transmission work be covered under the powertrain warranty? Why did you have to come out of pocket for this? Also, you could have fixed the steering lock yourself for $500, and I've seen refurbished a/c compressors for around $400. Sorry to hear about the issues, but it sounds like you got hosed on these repair costs...

Yes, the syncros would be covered but replacing the clutch(pressure plate ect is not and is a wear item.)

Its a $40k car, im not putting a refurb ac in it... save that for your Geo Metro.
and im not putting the ac compressor in myself.

I could have changed the steering lock had know about it before

this is what it costs to own this car
