Local shop tried to destroy my Z
Ok so not as dramatic as actually destroying it but they did their best to take the new off my 2012. I bought this car in February and immediately ordered a Fast Intentions exhaust that I had installed on August 1st. Not even four months later this happens.
So apparently I drive my car a little to hard and spin my tires a little too much (sue me). I have exactly 8k miles on my car right now and the rear tires are now slicks. So I ordered new rears from Tire Rack and had them drop shipped to a reputable shop not only on Tire Rack's site but from various people in my city. Now to what happened exactly. I show up today at 1pm for my appointment to get my rear tires swapped out and everything is going smoothly. 30 minutes pass and I am asked to pay for the service and be on my way. But wait!!! I am standing out front and waiting on my Z to be brought over. The entrance to the shop is off to the side and there was a BMW blocking my view as to what shocked me when I saw what took place. So I am standing there and the guy stops as he is backing out. I didn't know what he was doing and was ready to get back to work. Well what seems like 5 minutes pass and he is still just sitting there and he opens the driver door. So I thought he was only taking it that far and I am going to drive it off. (Only I wish). Well I walk over to find him with my car stuck on the what can best be described as a ditch that runs in front of the entrance to their shop. They piled up 2x4's to try and make it even but this guy managed to still get stuck. At this point I am watching my chin spoiler get ripped off the front end as this yahoo continues to back up even though I am yelling at him to go forward cuz you are tearing up my car. He gets frustrated gets out and the owner jumps in. He apparently can't drive stick cuz he then starts to pull forward but stalls it and WHAM!!! Yep you guessed it he just bought himself a nice rashed up dented Fast Intentions exhaust. Had to rant I am so pissed off right now. At least he is going to fix the damages and get me new parts. This was icing on the cake when we are going over what he is going to do to fix it. He says and I quote, "It's no big deal. I have been waiting on something like this to happen so the Landlord will fix it. I am not paying for it I will cut you a check and bill my Landlord and then maybe get my parking lot fixed." I guess this is what I get for poking fun at the guy who took his car to Wal-mart. Hell they couldnt do any worse. And if only I took the time to survey the lot before they pulled it in I would have told them no thanks and arranged for Nissan or somewhere else in town to do it. You live and learn I suppose. Now I have to find me a new shop to take my Z to to do maintenance that I can't take care of myself.

Well that sucks... At least you're getting compensated and they're not fighting you for the money, that would be insult to injury. I hope everything works out for you buddy!

Yea I don't have money in hand just yet but he seems to be handling it or I should say he is billing his Landlord. I will for sure be inspecting the grounds of whatever shop it ends up at next time. I may just ship tires to Nissan and pay them for labor at least they don't damage my car. It baffles me that he would let a sports car try to make that gap and chalk it up to he wanted it to happen to get it fixed. Apparently someone stole the drainage grate that used to make it level.
I am hoping when I get home to inspect the front bumper the chin spoiler didn't tear it or crack the plastic before the tabs broke or let go as it was ripped off.

HOLY CATS!!!! Now that's a horror story if I ever heard one. As the saying goes "you can't make that up". You can imagine how bad I feel for you considering I started a thread because I was upset with a car jockey at a Nissan dealer who had to adjust my seat position to drive it which I am anal about. Yikes...!!!
I get critized all the time because I choose to pay a little more for always bringing my Z to a Nissan dealer for servicing. I wouldn't even think of bringing it to a small local garage no matter what their reputation is. But you know what, I have peace of mind that at least if something goes wrong, I'd rather be suing Nissan Corp. than some small garage owner. I just had 4 new tires put on my car by...yup, a Nissan Dealer. Did I pay more to have this seemingly easy task done? You betcha!!! Do I have piece of mind that it was done right? You betcha! I consider my Z a huge investment even though of course it's not since it depreciates but to me, it is! I can only hope for you that the damage caused is just cosmetic. When you start scraping things underneath, you never know what kind of damage was done. That's a no brainer that he is willing to pay for the damage...he should. If I were you, I would have your Z checked out by people who know your Z, at a Nissan dealer. Good luck in the future! Last edited by JohnsZ; 11-16-2012 at 05:23 PM. |

Yeah, living in SoCal, we are spoiled at how many shops there are for all sorts of cars, but even then, you gotta find a good one and that's never easy.
Good thing I found specialty Z, what more can you ask for than a place that has guys that work ONLY on Z? or at least 99% of the time hah. EDIT: As for your situation, I'd say get a lawyer, because that's an example of lack of professionalism and recklessness.

You know im seeing a whole lot of at least they’re going to fix it but that is a hassle and a half for the simple fact.
1. Seeing your car damaged parked where ever it sleeps at night all messed up. 2. Waiting for the parts to get in to have it fixed. 3. Then taking it to a shop to have them install it with a slight possibility of an over nighter. 4. Not to mention that Fi exhaust is on major back order. Omg this bites bro and I feel your pain. |

I learned the hard way when I had a barely lowered Honda prelude oem front lip torn off by pep boys, even Costco couldn't get the car up and most places refused

Well just got it home. After further inspection it is not too bad in all intents and purposes. It sucks to have to replace anything on a brand new car. It sucks even more to have to replace a custom exhaust. Besides denting/rashing the cans and bending the hanger. The worst will be waiting on a new one to be made and being delivered to put on. I have already been on the phone with Tony and he is going to take care of me. I believe I am now number 660+. And for the front it did not tear the bumper when the chin spoiler was being ripped off. The two tabs popped out and then it got rashed pretty bad. So at least the worst is over. I popped the tabs back in and should get a new chin spoiler at the first of next week. So then the wait on the exhaust. It could have been worse is all I can think. I know now I will only be taking the car to Nissan. If they screw it up we can settle up. Toyota screwed up my old car and I got it replaced....long story there.
As far as at least he is taking care of it...yes that is good. However I do not have money in hand. So not lawyering up yet. I should have the check Monday at least that is what I stated we shall see if he comes good. What baffles me the most is the comment he made at the end stating he was waiting for that to happen. If you were waiting for that to happen shouldn't you at least consult with the customer and say "Hey man we are about to jack up your car and hey that custom exhaust dont worry about it we are going to jack those up for you too!" Or better yet don't perform the services to said car if you have no way of getting it in and out of the shop without damages. Unprofessional only begins to describe what happened. ....apparently nice cars are frowned upon in this establishment.

Quality work is very hard to find..
You would think that people would do a good job because they want to have repeat customers or keep their job....Nope... I have a very short list of people that touch my cars and my house..
