The steering lock is directly underneath your steering wheel/column. It is a silver box with a sticker on it(the sticker will have a bunch of letter "E's" on it.) The first picture on this thread is what it will look like when you are laying in your floorboard looking up at the column. http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...ix-w-pics.html

Once you hit that a few times while pressing the Start/Button, you should here the lock retract and the car will go into "ACC" mode.

For now, don't worry about the ECM. It's possible that you have an ECM problem, but MUCH more likely that you have a failed steering wheel lock (use the site search at the top of every page for more than you really want to know about SWL failure in 370Zs).
As everyone is trying to tell you, get the vehicle back from the dealer and try using the percussive force method of freeing up the stuck SWL (you will find at least one good DIY when you do the search mentioned above).
If you are able to free the SWL, remove the fuse supplying power to the SWL (search).
If you cannot free the SWL, then you will have to get the dealer to replace it or DIY (search). I don't know much it should cost to get a mechanic to do the job, but $1600 sounds pretty high for a $500-700 part and an hour of labor. Only requires one special tool that every Nissan dealer should have and most DIYers can jury rig or do without.

If fixing the SWL does not fix the problem, THEN is the time to suspect the ECM.

Good luck.

Good job especially while on the road.

Yeah, I stopped at a gas station to get a drink before heading home, and it was stuck when I got back in to leave. I had been looking at the fix for a few weeks but never got around to it... Glad to have actually got it to work, that part is expensive and there is no downside to not having a functioning lock that I know of.

you're retes if you'reTE=wheee!;2013925]Some people have had luck by tapping on the ipd steering lock box with a mallet via screwdiver etc while trying to start the car. It may lossen the screw drive mechanism enough to power up. Once it is in the "on" mode (not running), PULL THE FUSE! problem gone forever.[/QUOTE]

This. Rubber mallet, tap lock mechanism, push start button without clutch or brake pedal, if/when i starts pull fuse and throw it away. This method costs $0 and about 15 minutes if youre lucky.

Let us know if you decide to do the mallet and screwdriver approach. I am curious to know how long it took.

ON another note: I would definitely try the mallet banging first because that is a lot of money to throw away and could be used for other things. Like Mods The stealership is just trying to take your money.

Not only does it cost a bunch of cash to pay the mechanic to repair your car, but you will also be without a vehicle until you can come up with the money to do so. A payday cash advance can help you pay the mechanic and get you back to work quicker.
