Anyone polished there timing chain cover?
so i was wondering how hard it was to get the timing cover off these cars? looks like a big ordeal tbh. if not, i was thinking about polishing jsut the individual left and right camshaft covers. they look like 10 min to take off and put on
these little guys: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/08-09-10-11-G...oHg~~60_35.JPG anyone have this or any other stuff polished under the hood so i can kinda get an idea of what this would look like?? any tips are appreciated |
If you can't see it , from the outside of the car, or the interior , then its really a waste of time, dressing up items under the hood that only act as decorations are really for posers.
Its like somebody washing and waxing the underside of their car. For shows or industry trade purposes I can see doing , but other wise its just a waste of time and money. |
Costs $0.00. Winters coming, so it will be something to do to pass the time while i can't drive the car. But saying making under the hood parts look good is for posers is kinda ignorant imo. I like my car looking good with the hood opened and closed. Already got plenty of go, i figured a little show can't hurt.
Btw, i clean my fender wells and polish my exhaust back to the start of the mufflers every wash. Guess i do pointless stuff. But gotta keep my weekend warrior lookin fresh |

I know someone on this forum has, I've seen a pic before

This is a great idea, in for finished product.
To the guy who said posers dress up their engine bay and clean under their car, that is a very immature statement. I guess you don't take care of anything you own. I have all the panels off one of our Z's right now and I cleaned under them while they were off. I guess I'm a HUGE poser/loser.....no I just care about my things I spend my hard earned money on. |
I clean the fender wells several times a week a long with the engine and other areas that aren't easily seen. If that makes me a poser, then sign me the !@#$ up.
|
Dangit... If only we would have known we were all posers...
Back on topic, i may try taking a crack at this soon. With the cam covers at least. However, does anyone know whether or not those are sealed, either by some sort of gasket or anything, to the timing chain cover? |
|
I'm not talking about simply doing a thorough cleaning and detailing of your car, theres nothing wrong with that .
What I'm talking about is the idiots that will go so far as putting their car up and jack stands and will actually wash and wax, armoral the entire under carriage of the car monthly, and the same idiot I worked with even cleaned and polished the inside of his tail pipes. |
Dont look at my build thread then...

it doesn't look too crazy really. however, it does look like i see a few gaskets there. wondering if those will need to be replaced when i put it back on, or if im gonna be losing fluids up there or what. |
Jay666 here did.. This was a pic his shop, ProjectX Customs, posted up on our local forum.. Car is bad ***.
Cell phone pic but you get the idea. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...t%20X/jay3.jpg |
I never noticed how nice that casting looked. I think it's a worth while project, especially if you pop your hood at shows.
