Thoughts on Quality Gas?
I havent yet done my research on if I should or should not be filling up with QT premium gas. I live in texas and am not sure what other national discount gas stations to compare it to. But any info on if shell and chevron gas is going to really help out in the long run for my engine?

Top Tier Gasoline |
Top Tier gasoline is the way to go. Chevron if you can get it. Their Techtron is the best additive.
I know Hyundai recommends using an additive if you don't use a top tier supplier. |
Guys if I was you, I will never go with out (a little) gas on the thanks.
There is waste or rust or something laying on the botton of the thank and can be sucked into the engine. Good luck! |

Wellll... QT is on their, so you should be good!
But occasionally they fall off the list, so check frequently... Or as much as you care, lol |

Shell is my main gas. QT was my back-up gas till recently. I noticed when I put QT in the car it felt sluggish. Up until a few months ago this was not so. But if you want to still use QT? Do it... Remember, QT is the only guaranteed gas in the state. So if you ever have any problems with your motor due to bad gas? You can make a claim and they will repair or replace your engine. At least you have that much.
I personally would stay away till they make it back on the top tier list. |
Def. no ARCO - that's just watered down gasoline from Mexico. Made my car run like **** when I put it in one time - I had to test it. It's also the reason it's like $1 cheaper than everything else.
I only use QT gas. Chevron and Shell are far too expensive out here - almost $.50 more per gallon it seems. |
Shell V-Power.:happydance:

Well per the manual it states not to drive on low fuel because it messes up the cats. I think that is what they mean. |
Shell v-power everytime

From what I understand, there is no difference power-wise or octane-wise between no-name gas and top-tier gas. Gas is gas and they all have to meet the same quality standards.
HOWEVER Top-tier gasoline will have much more (and better) detergents in it to help keep your fuel system clean and running better. That is why they cost more than the no-name brands. WITH THAT SAID Fifth Gear just did a test on last night's show (Wednesday nights on Velocity) that showed that Shell V-Power made around 4-5 more HP than other top-tier and no-name gasoline. Keep in mind this was Shell gas from Europe which is not the same stuff we get here. (I'm sure it's close, but it's not the same) |

might just be completely in my head, but all my cars have run like absolute crap on chevron. that techron stuff is terrible and kills MPG. switched to 76 or shell and never had issues
|
Did you know all gas is collected from the same refineries and just branded differently by the manufacturers.

Shell V-Power 99% of the time...every time I use any other fuel my mileage goes down on my regular trips...Less mileage, less efficiency..sluggish performance...Here in north Tampa area Shell V-power is only a few cents more if not par with other fuels.

I agree that gas is gas...it is refined and pumped around the country. The difference comes in how it is handled after it is branded and exposed to dirt and water at your neighborhood station. The storage tanks always have a certain amount of water condensation and dirt contamination. One can only hope that top tier gas receives better handling...but that may not always be the case.

93 here. As mentioned, gas is gas. It's the additives that make the difference in price. |
93 is tougher to come by in Kc.
|
I don't understand why some states insist on selling 91 and not 93. What possible benefit could it be to them?
|
I rate my gas (this is butt dyno whatever, but I have a pretty accurate butt dyno(girls agree haha ;))
1. 76 2. Shell 3. Chevron -- only use this when the other two are too far away, happens seldomly but does happen |
Intresting,
Typically use Sunoco since they are the closest and have 93 but they don't show up on the list. I guess I could try shell though they are a bit out of the way. |
some interesting posts on this topic in this thread on another forum: Why is Sunoco not a top tier gas - Corvette Forum
look for posts by "LDB" (his first one is #45 in the thread) |
Chevron 94 all the way. 0% ethanol

I do not buy from the no-name "Thrifty Gas" stations. Regarding additives, I add 6 oz of MMO (That's Marvel Mystery Oil for those of you in Rio Linda) to a tank every thousand miles, and a bottle of Techron to the tank before each oil change. These seem to compensate for the additives that Shell or Chevron add and I come out ahead in the long run. The MMO is good for the lubing the upper cylinder area, fuel pump and sending unit in the tank, which helps prevent the erroneous fuel level readings that many report, and the Techron cleans the injectors with a high dose of PEA. |
Does 93 make a difference?
I guess i can see it on a boosted car, but on a NA, would it improve milage or HP?? |
