It sounds like the Carrera 4s is pretty demanding to drive fast, like you have to be precise and deliberate with your driving to get the car to respond well. When I first drove a 370z Nismo, I found it difficult and intimidating to drive the car. . . is that how the Carrera 4S is, intimidating? Part of the reason for this in the Nismo was the lack of rearward visibility ( thin rear-view mirror view through the spoiler, non-existent blind-spot over the shoulder view)
It sounds like your Carrera 4S has amazing power and puts it down well with the 4-wheel drive sys. Enjoy ! |

Do you have an issue with the front fender budging up, blocking the view in front of the LF and RF. I thought that was a very weird feature, also the wider rear end than the front took a little to get used to too

The Carrera 4S then again has all wheel drive which changes driving dynamics quite a bit along with the engine located in the rear. The driver feedback will feel different no matter what between the Z and Porsche. The mid engine design in the Porsche is primarily for handling and the AWD system in the Carrera 4 will feel grippy in any instance compared to the Z.

Big Six, it's not intimidating, I think because of the responsiveness it just happens quicker. I think the reputation for being hard to drive may preoccupy your thoughts at first. The all wheel drive really helps things but it only delivers between 4 and 40 % of it's power to the front wheels so it still retains the driving characteristics of a rear wheel drive car. You don't even notice the front fenders bulging upwards, the front of the car seems of fall away from your vision so the front end seems very short. The 997 is a rear engine vehicle not a mid engine vehicle, which is why it got a reputation for demanding driving early in it's development. Over the years it has gotten easier and easier to drive the car. I should explain that the limits are so high that you really have to be pushing it to get any hint of the rear end wanting to step out. The biggest thing is just learning to adjust to a different driving style. Driving it fast does take more concentration but in a good way. I guess that is half the fun of driving a twisty road, it takes more talent than a straight road and you get more involved in the experience no matter what car you are driving.

Don't mind the negativity from some....it's just their jealousy talking. I'd put my 2012 370Z in on a Porsche TOMORROW....IF I could afford it. |

nice pick up. i can say after driving a few porsches pretty hard that its not a car that will easily forgive u if u go past the boundries. the z will start over and understeering top let u know u are over doing it. the porsche is grip grip grip grip GONE. but i can speak to the power of the 911's. it's not that there's that much more, its just the 911's rear engine design allows the car to use them much more effeciently. i.e. punching it a little sooner out of the corner because the back end is completely planted. no hunting for traction like the z.
but again, word to the wise, DO NOT get over confident in this car. it will swap ends faster than u can imagine. ask me how i know lol. AWESOME pick up tho. i'm jelly doubtful... that same driver in the 911 WILL be faster. until u have really driven one to its limits its hard to understand. it really is. the 911 is just a more planted sports car

Nice car. How do they hold up? I have heard that the rear main seals are known to go bad and leak oil. Most Porsche guys I know go to Indy shops once they get out of warrenty. Planet9 seems to be the main board for them.

The Nismo isn't faster.It feels fast but the clock does't lie. I have taken both to the track and timed the laps and the Porsche is faster even though I haven't gotten dialed in yet. As far as dependability the 996 had some problems but I haven't heard of any problems with the 997. I bought an extended warranty just to be safe though.
