Sounds like you're not the guy on the Gieco commercial that's made of money...
I'd say sell it so you don't have to sweat about not having enough money. Being a new father is stressfull enough without feeling like you can't afford it. With the money you save, you can still take the boss lady out for dinner occasionally with feeling like your going to miss rent or a mortgage. Start saving for a place of your own. Once you've got food and shelter taken care of, that's when you can go out and think about buying a new toy. BTW, having 1 extra vehicle is great for when 1 breaks down but keeping up on maintenance and repairs with more than just your own will wear on you over time, even if you don't do your own work. The older the vehicles the worse this gets. Try to stay under 10 years and 100k miles if your getting a used car. Toyota or Honda, Manual RWD will be the cheapest to keep running in the long run. If it's the third car, your wife should be able to drive it too. For me that means auto tranny since she doesn't drive stick.

Fearless, First of all, Congrats on the great news of you becoming a father! Second, what were you thinking, no just kidding
Being a good dad is cool but it does come with a financial cost and sacrifice. I don't know what your finances are, so I can't say what's the right thing for you to do with your Z is. But what I can share as a father of 2 (one is graduating college in 2 months, the 2nd is a junior in college), this current Z will not be your last toy. Prioritize what's important, sacrifice what you need to, take care of family and work your butt off. Oh yeah, trust me on this last one, the toys will always be there for you to purchase them later. |

I really appreciate everyone's input and opinions on this. It really means alot. See, im only 21, and the only reason i was able to afford the 370z was because of a family owned car dealership, which i use to work, so i got the car below MMR, saved myself a good deal of money there. I dont want to put the car ahead of my child or family, and never will i do that. I guess im just trying to see if i can afford the luxury of life a little while being able to maintain a stable family. But you cant always have your cake and eat it too. Im still not out of that stage in life where all i depend on is myself and i could do everything i wanted without having to worry about anything else. Just didnt expect it to change this fast. But thats how it happens sometimes. I suspect that im going to keep the Z for now and possibly find another 4 door sedan thats affordable. The mother has a 4 door sentra, although it has 300k miles on it so were not really relying on it. But with my income and hers, im sure we'll mantain. Either way it goes, my child's well being will come first.

I'm confused. You need a second car no matter what, so why even consider trading in the Z on another sports car? You end up in the same place....needing another car.

You're not confused. You're logical.

I dont neccessarily need another car or two cars for that matter. Before the child, all i needed was my one car, the Z and now that i have a child on the way, i need another car, that or sell the Z and have one 4 door car. My original debate was to sell my Z and get something with a backseat at least or with 4 doors, that way i only have one car to pay for and worry about but now ive decided to keep my Z and buy another 4 door sedan instead.
