Best Color for the Sun
hey everyone
Zaku again with your daily noobish question. Actually I'm playing this is probably a good question. So I don't have a garage, or a drive way. Most of the time My future Z will be parked in the sunlight. what's a good color choice that would last, because Im sure Red and Blue will get damaged faster then say Platinum. Right now my color choice for the Z is White or Silver. Are those good choices? or are the paint so different and better now that it doesn't matter. |

That said, the only thing being considered is IR...UV is the problem w/ paint, which they'll all have just as bad of a time dealing with. If it's that big of a deal, get a cover. :) |
Go for white or silver as they reflect the light a lot more and will stand up better because of that.

Get PG, best colour ever.
Stay away from red and yellow for fading issues. Also, stay away from black, there will be too many swirls if left outside all the time, not worth the headache. |

That's true but PG wins over white and silver is a too common colour.

OP: everybody covered it already, but i'd cast my vote for white....to each their own, i guess. :icon17: |
I drive a 2001 Silver Pathfinder. The only paint damage on it is parking lot dings and a handful of small chips from rocks and road debris. Never garage kept and in hot, sunny southern Mississippi. No noticeable fading/damage on hood or roof (which take the most sun).

Also you can take it a step further and use UV protectant style polishes.
every thing i use has Ultra-Guard™ UV(40) in it. http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...wax-zaino.html My paint on what ever care i own looks brand new for when i keep my car, but it does sit under a canopy most of the time, not fully garaged though. |

Really I think PG is more of a common color at the dealership I went to they had 4 PG in stock and 1 silver I bought the only white 370Z in the midwest the next closest one was in pennsylvania, and I live in Illinois And I have looked at other dealerships and they only have black, blue, pg, silver, red, It seems that the yellow and White are harder to get ahold of DAN |
PGs are all over the place now in NOVA.

White is the absolute best color, thats why its used in the heat shielding for ordnance lockers. Next Id say a light silver.
|
I faced this dilemma when I was considering the color for my car. I live in super sunny/hot south Florida. I really wanted to get the PG because I thought it looked the best but I had to be realistic about darker colors parked in the sun all day long. My GF has a car color similar to PG and when both our cars are parked outside all day the difference in the paint temperature is very discernible. That being said, I'm pretty happy with my color choice and when clean/waxed up, the car looks amazing in the bright sun.

Go with the colour you like - if you maintain the paint I suspect it will last for a very long time even if its in the sun all the time. Its pure conjecture to say that a light paint will last longer because it reflects light. Who's to say it won't oxidize faster regardless of its ability to reflect light.
I suspect ordnance and munitions lockers are white for heat not because the paint is less likely to fail.... |
