Default Questions About My Z

OK ... I dont know if I should have posted these questions as separate topics.... but below are some of the questions I got about my car.

My Car: 2010 370z convertible (automatic)

1. Car Skidding: Basically if I press the gas kinda hard when I am ready to take off... the car actually looses control and fish tails .... i dont even have the VDC off ... so really not sure how to get a perfect launch (remember I have auto). Any tips? My buddy has a corvette and his car blew past mine .... and I understand they have more horse power bla bla bla ... but I feel like I didnt even get a fair launch because I had to 'slow' down bc my car was fish tailing.

2. Battery Dying: If I dont start my car in 5 days ... the battery dies. Is this normal? The dealer said thats normal with these cars because there is a lot of stuff still working while the car is off...

3. Nav System: I heard you can get videos to play off your iPhone if you buy a Y Adapter. OK ... but problem is videos cant be played while driving. Is there a way to fix that?

4. Nav Maps: How do you download the latest version of the MAPs and then upload it to the car?

1. I'm surprised to hear you're losing control that badly. I also run the AT, and have never had this issue. Only thing I can think of off hand is that your tires are finished.

2. That's absolute rubbish. (Or I just have a super battery)

3. Don't know, was never interested in playing vids.

4. The dealer can update the maps, if you're not up to date. But it's pricey. I think around $100

For your battery dying, look into the long term storage switch inside the fuse box. There is a thread around here somewhere with more details

To answer your first question, you can go look at my failed thread that I created. "Hurr durr torque steer". Its probably and most likely road conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if a corvette smoked me in straight line speeds.

I always wanted to say that the gearing on 1st gea-
I don't know how to word it. I've been having trouble figuring it out. But, what I'm trying to say is that I just remedy the problem by easing my foot down on the pedal instead of just stomping on the damned thing. Its the gearing, I feel that 1st and 2nd gear doesn't last too long and before I know it, I'm already at 3rd gear going 80MPH.

Rolling in 2nd gear if I put my foot into it when I hit around 4-5k rpm the back end will go sideways. In first gear rolling it happens around 3-4k rpm. Trying to launch the car with any pre-load on the engine and forget it. This has been the case with my 2010 NISMO since day one. I waiting to see if new tires will change this but if not I may be looking else where for my next car sooner than expected. It sucks not being able to even take off semi aggresively without the back end just coming out. This is with VDC off. With VDC on I basically go no where for several seconds as it cuts power. My only other thought was that my differential fluid needs to be switched, maybe contaminated from factory or something. Not letting the LSD work properly. I mean, it's almost as if my car doesn't even have an LSD>

How shagged are you rear tires? lack of grip would indicate something is amuck back there. I can't recall if the 7at comes with a VLSD or not (sports package required on 6MT for example). VCS is very aggressive on the Z as you know.

5 days is not normal unless you have aftermarket items drawing a lot of dark current.

Search audio/nav forums. Most video bypass hacks involve getting the car to think its always in park or similar firmware hack. I am not aware of one for the Z but I have not looked that hard as I could care less about videos: I drive.

Map updates are available but its 200+ for the DVDs direct from the company. Threads are out there about it.

Simple physics. Learn how to feel the tires lose grip, both front and rear. Also, you're probably better off in a camry cause you're gonna hit a tree soon.

I let my Z sit for many weeks when I'm out of town and she always starts up right away when I return. The battery is over 3 years old and still very strong and I don't have any battery tender or any such thing hooked up. Failing to start after 5 days is ridiculous. I'd demand a new one before you're stranded at an airport parking lot or somewhere after being away for a week or two.

This, both my G and my Z sit for extended periods as I travel often. Sometimes they sit for over 3 weeks and I have never had a problem and I am still on the stock batteries.

This is the answer. I too remember reading it at some point.
