These brakes are great and stop HARD. Their only weakness is the stated above.

Also, I own neither sports nor Nismo (although I did upgrade to the akebono brakes thx to a raffle).

And I think that both are great cars. The sports pkg, base Z is your best performance for the buck, imo, but the Nismo is quite an extreme and wild Z. It always grabs my eye first in the lineup. I don't think that either constitutes a better or worse choice, it's just what fits whoever's preferences the best.

Z1 offers a pretty cool brake upgrade package.

I voted no.

But if the NISMO had all of the touring options, like Navi, leather, bluetooth, you know the works. I would have jumped on the NISMO.

The brakes DO work well...my complaint with them is that it doesn't take long under spirited driving for them to overheat and for fade to set in. You shouldn't be FORCED to upgrade the rotors, pads, lines and fluids to get high peformance braking from a car touted as having high peformance capability.

Still not interested in the added expense of the Nismo for the marginal gains in performance and (to my eyes anyway) silly ricer looks.

Not a Nismo fan... prefer the customized Sport/Touring setup myself....

Even the base brakes are pretty good once you upgrade the pads/fluid. I put XP8's and RBF600 in mine and my braking is limited by my tires (RE050A's).

I ended up buying a used touring non-sport because that was the best I could afford at the time. While I do like the Nismo, I don't think I would have bought it even if I could afford it. Actually, if I were to do it all again I'd probably get a 5.0

You don't have to upgrade the rotors or lines.

All you have to upgrade is pads (less than 200 bucks, need to be replaced over time regardless) and fluid (20-30 bucks per bottle), and then all but extreme track driving should be covered.

I understand that's a headache, but it's not insurmountable.

Yeah and bump the pads cost to ~$400 and you'll be track ready.

Pads and fluid yes but not $30 fluid. I tried DOT 4 and after 20 minutes at the track the fluid boiled. Dot 5.1 cost $75-120 but I lasted all day at the track. (A different track so I still want an apples to apples comparisson.)

Look at my signature to see all the extras but without anything, driving 10 seconds a lap slower, I could avoid brake fade with the stock set up. I can not imagine off track driving where police patrol and DOT 5.1 is needed.

No need to worry, I don't have money to switch cars right now. So instead, I will track my Z until I can afford a car that's a step up from the level of the Z. Hoping maybe GT-R or Z06 in a couple years.
