Historical Z Prices

So I was wondering how the price of the current Z compared with the previous models and I figured up their MSRPs taking into account inflation. Pretty interesting! 1970 240Z

Talk about "affordable sports car" huh?

Using an inflation rate of 3%/yr., the 370 base is $17,810 in "1990 dollars." I remember Mustang GT's started at $23,000 brand new then, MR2 Turbo's were about that as well. This 370 is dirt cheap then.

I thought 1970 240's were under $4,000 then? Because if you use 3%/yr. inflation with your $19,343.15 price, then that is $8,208. I thought Corvettes costed that much new then? Corvette is always a little more expensive than Z's.

I used an online inflation calculator that uses the consumer price index. My 240z price was based on MSRP of $3,526.

This makes sense. I was going to say there is no way a Z was $19434 in 1970 dollars

Excellent info - I was just thinking about this a couple of days ago when I realized that the 300ZX (Z32) sold for almost the same as a base 370Z - just under $30K and that was 20 years ago! The strong Yen was almost the demise of Nissan and the Z car had to go. It wasn't looking good after '96 for the Z car....

Z32 twin turbos were easily approaching $45,000 brand new in '96. My friend had one brand new in '91 and its MSRP was $36,000.

Yes. I still have the window sticker for my 1991 somewhere and it was almost $37,000.
