Bought a FD instead
Hi guys
I think i was the 1st Australian member on this site , back then i was considering purchasing a 370Z but changed my mind and got myself a Mazda FD Spirit R TYPE A . The price of the 370 Z here in Australia and a few other bits and pieces put me off the purchase . Cheers Michael |
What is a Mazda FD?
|
google it...
ic, what made you choose this car? |
Hey man, how are ya? I thought you left us! It's really good to hear from you. Lets see some pictures of your car.
You're one of the VERY first Australian member and original poster of The370Z.com (Join Date 11-05-2008, Member no. 75). I'm glad you still remembered this small site |
FD = the last generation (and one of the most sought after generations) of the RX7. The package he got in addition is also very much in demand but hard to find.
That's awesome, dude. Pics? |
Too bad that version was really never obtainable over here. I would rock one of those vice the 370.
|
I like FDs, but not with that motor. LSx swap? Sure. But rotary motors = GET DOWN IT'S GUNNA BLOW!
|
Well if you don't choose a 370 I can't say this is a bad choice at all. Excellent car.
|
Look into deleting the spark plug that fires by the apex seal. After that mod that dont blow anymore.
|
Really? That I didn't know. I'll have to ask my friend who's obsessed with RX7s if he knows about that. I'm sure he does. I tease him all the time about how people blow those motors up and put LS1s in because they want their car to be fast with a bi-product of being reliable! :D LOL
|
One of my friends is a college student at MSOE, he wants to buy either and FC or FD body, replace the rotary with an LS2, convert the LS2 to a diesel set up, rebuild the block, turbocharge the diesel with VGT's, then change the rear wheels to 335's with 295's in the front, give it a fully functional downforce kit, roll cage, carbon fiber/aluminum interior, and downpipes. Holy ****, he better be balling.
EDIT: Also: :worthless: |

MSOE? Nice! My hood! |

Turbo + LSx + built bottom end = 1000BHP! Warhawk LSx + built bottom end + turbo = 2000+WHP!!! Why spend all that money on the conversion when you can do more for less? |
Great choice Michael! I have always liked the FD's.
I used to have a S5 FC with a Trust 3037 which was crazy. There's nothing like a rotary coming on full boost with an external gate! Oh yeah! http://www1.garaget.org/gallery/arch...816_zxowud.jpg |

Type A came standard with dufferent suspension wheels , upgraded engine , dials, numbered plate signed by manufacturer . One of the most sought after and collectible FDS How to identify your JDM! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "im still adding to this. Well there is quite a few import rx7s in Australia, while the S8 *(JDM - S5/S6) Rx7s are quite common as imports in Australia. There has been a number of personal imports that have slowly flooded into Australia. Large numbers of FDs also make their new homes in Canada, Europe and other places. Well I thought I might make a list of the different types of models of rx7s that were sold within Japan for those who are not sure of what model car theirs is. Firstly, the vin! The first digit after FD3S shows the production run, FD3S1##### = version 1 (1991 - late 1993) FD3S2##### = version 2 (Late 1993 - 1995) FD3S3##### = version 3 (1995) FD3S4##### = version 4 (1996-1998) FD3S5##### = version 5 (1998-2001) FD3S6##### = version 6 (2001-2002) Remember that the models names such as Series 6,7,8 were something that was created in Australia. In Japan, Rx7s are identified as belonging from one of 6 types. Version 1 (1991- 1993) *all 4 seaters Type S - base model, front spoiler only, no airbag. Colours the same as type R. Type S - Auto Type R - performance model, different suspension, all body spoilers standard, lighter weight, am/fm radio, manual aircon, colours; same as Type X but also had competition yellow. Type X - lux model, leather seats, sunroof, climate control, cruise control, 16inch rims, rear spoiler was an option, drivers airbag, Cd player. Just noticed it myself , pic was taken outside the Sydney department of transport station that area has been taken over by Muslims hence the Ninja Burka look . Cheers Michael |
The Spirit R is lovely. Congrats!!
|
Great car :tiphat: - I talked to a guy with a really clean FD at Laguna a few weeks after I got my car, and I have to admit I did have a spike of jealousy.
That said, most of the FDs around here are so beat on and are old enough that I just didn't want the hassle of yet another Great Car That Always Needs Something (TM). I needed a break from them. Now if they come out with an FE with the right specs, I'll be all over it :excited: |
that is one clean Mazda you got, congrats on it.........such a classic car.
i love the RX-7's and Supra's.... |
FD s can get a bit quirky however if you shop around do your homework get a good one that doesnt spend time being repaired they are very rewarding :ughdance:
|
Very very nice pickup. The Spirits were some of my favorite cars on Forza 2. I'd love to drive one some day.
|
I believe the 2002 RX-7 Spirit R (i.e. Spirit of the "Rotary") were only produced for the Japanese market. But guess a few found their way to other RHD countries like OZ.
Congrats! |
The last rotary that officially made it to our shores (Australia )was in 1998 at a price nearing $ 100,000 they sold a few .
Mazda continued making them till August 2002 my is a july manufactured car , so its one of the last line of production it was imported intu Australia and then bought by me :ughdance: I dont believe Mazda or any other car manufacturer will ever release such a purpose built care ever , especially with a Rotary engine and twin turboes :tiphat: The car was sold for 40,million yen when released in 2002 good low km examples still get around 36 - 38,million yen Today 7 YEARS AFTER THEY RELEASED THEM ;) Cheers Michael |
The FD will alway hold a special place in my heart. I was a proud owner of a '93 RX-7, bought new in '93 when they were first released in the US.
Those that say the RX-7 is unreliable have never owned a "stock" RX-7. Most of the trouble was caused by kids not knowing what they were doing trying to add more power, or even some who knew what they were doing, but pushed their mods too far. My '93 RX-7 wasn't perfect, but was fairly trouble free 'till the day I sold it in '98. Mazda continued to enhance the car over the years, I'm sure the '02 models are far better reliability wise compared to the early year models. Problem here in the US is all that's left are tired worn out '93-'95 examples. Most, if not almost all, have mods on 'em. I'd love to own a pristine stock '99+ JDM RX-7. But they're just not legal here in the US. Sigh... |
Gorgeous car.
