But this car won't see 160+ without mods. Stock it'd be lucky to see 160 at all unless you're at sea level. I think with full bolt-ons it will see 170-ish speeds.

What if you are below sea level?

The odometer and speedometer on the 370Z is extremely accurate. Just did a 600 mile trip with a GPS (by the way, a phone GPS will not be as accurate because it is using cell towers and not satellites) and over a 400 mile section the odometer and GPS read within .5 miles of each other. The speedometer (which is directly related to odometer accuracy) was never off by more than
.5 mph up to triple digits.

Were you going over 120MPH? The argument isn't about how accurate they are at normal highway speeds, but whether or not they're accurate above 100MPH. My Tom Tom and Garmin both tell me my Speedo is accurate at 60, 70, and 80MPH. But above 100MPH is another story.

Remember that the speed is registered by picking up pulses on the transmission. There's no physical connection to gears. So the faster you go, the more accurate the speed sensor must be.

Hi, I'm from Argentina and I have a 370 6 MT Black Diamond, LSD, 18", Sync Rev, Bose Audio System an electrical/heater sits, a mix of Sport and Touring version (Is what Nissan brings here...)
Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but... I have trying to know if my Z is limted or not... I'm at sea level and my top speed reached was 265+km/h (165mph) not GPS tested, 6th@6100rpm and won't go any further. So, I have 1400rpm to reach the 7500rpm factory limted. Is it posible to reach it stock?

Sorry for my bad english...

I've only got mine up to 100 mph, I'm too paranoid, even with my Passport! :eekdance:

Nop, no cops around that highway ;)... But I want to know if its limted there or I have to put some bolts to reach 7000/7250rpm en 6th

Not sure about limiters on the Z's in Argentina, but up here they are limited to 155 MPH, I believe. Bolt-ons, like exhaust and intakes will give you more power and should push your car even further, but again, not sure if they put a limiter on your Z. Find and try a down hill straight-away and report back. :driving:

I would honestly question the speedometer then (especially if it's stock because the computer limits you to 155). I've done a lot of math on this (as seen in other threads) about how much power it takes to get to certain speeds based on aerodynamics, weight, rolling resistance, power, etc.

Take a GPS system with you next time to see how fast you're REALLY going, because I really don't think those speedos are that accurate beyond 100MPH.

You are right about physics and top speed. Some speedometers can be off and a GPS is the way to go.

Havent pushed the car to the limter yet but got it to 220kmh and got my ZX6R up to 299kmh when it had its limiter, havent tested it since i took it off.

Go get a tune and remove the redline.
That's when the real fun begins with mods.

Don't know haven't tired. had it up to 100 which is fast enough for me.
hows that saying go.
Better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it.
To me its about looking good and the 370 does that!

spearfish25 06-13-2010 08:55 PM

Top speed is kind of a useless concept since it's not real-world tangible in the majority of situations. Unless you're on the Nurburgring, there is no way you're going to hit 160mph on a track in a Z. Obviously you shouldn't be doing this on public streets unless you have a suicidal/homocidal wish.

Did anyone notice the oil temp gauge in the picture?
