If it were me, I'd use the money to buy something far cheaper than a new Z cuz being broke and college student and all.

Been there, done that.

I got a ticket a while back that I still need to pay 77 on a 55 I am sure it is going to be an very expensive ticket. The only good thing is that every time i call to get price The city still does not have it on file maybe he never submitted it.

I hope my guy doesn't file it too!!!

DEpointfive0 09-20-2012 07:09 PM

$286, I found out because someone I know got the EXACT same ticket...

houkouonchi 09-20-2012 08:54 PM

I just got my second ticket since having my Z (a bit over 2 years I have had it).

This guy was normally driving at 75-ish and I was fine with that. But now and then (especially when going up a hill) he would slow way down to 60 (in the fast lane).

He would slow down to the point of going slower than the traffic to the right of him. Even his normal speed was barely faster than traffic to the right and they were packed pretty good so no opportunity to pass.

Fast forward to 3 minutes later. Finally an opportunity to pass arives (if he just drove consistently speed wise i would not have passed). Of course at this point he is going at a good speed (75) but i did not want to be behind him any more.

It was a somewhat small section to pass so I down shifted to fourth and passed got by quickly to insure i would not be cutting him or anyone else off. I probably got up to about 95 but promptly slowed down.

Anyway just as I am slowing down i see lights from a motorcycle cop who wasnt THAT far behind me and i knew i was screwed =(. My bad for going that fast but its seriously annoying i got doubly screwed by the guy who was going slow. People who ever drive slower than the rest of traffic in the fast lane drives me nuts.

So I got a ticket for going 80 so I guess I can't bitch too much. The guy did not even radar/laser me. He gave me **** saying the guy was going 75.. Argh...

Anyway tickets are expensive in California. This one is gonna $370 =(

forza370z 09-20-2012 09:09 PM

^^Maybe the guy noticed a cop was around that's why he driving slow?

But I totally agree with you - slow a$$ should be in the right lanes! I HATE people occupying the fast lane while driving slower then the trafic and cause the jam!

I don't believe you can get a ticket by pacing, or by the guy "ball parking" your speed in CA... you should be able to fight it easily

You can here in AZ. It's happened to me before. I tried to fight it, but I didn't have the knowledge to prove him wrong.

Joepro 09-20-2012 11:12 PM

If you go to the magistrate and be upfront and tell them you know you were wrong wont happen again blah blah and that BS they most always knock it down to a traffic control device here in PA. You pay a fine, no points. Haven't had one in awhile, only ticket i got in the 350 was for window tint(fingers crossed) but I beat the ticket for a traffic violation by being extremely prepared and having an answer for any question the officer could muster up....always a chance they cant make it too ;)

QuadDragon 09-21-2012 05:43 AM

When you buy a Z they aught to make you pay for 5 tickets up front, rolled into your financing.

I would disagree with this, I bought my first Z in 07 before I traded it in for the roadster, I have never been issued a ticket. I'm not saying that I didnt get pulled over (trust me it has happened plenty of times)

Pretty sure that has nothing to do with getting the ticket. It just chaps my *** because under normal circumstances i would not have passed the guy and would not have gotten a ticket. I got double screwed by the guy.

How hard is it to keep a consistent 72-75 mph? Sheesh... Going 75 and then 15 seconds later he is doing 63.

I'm in the same boat as you, I wouldn't have normally been gunning it at 57 for shitz n giggles... No one was letting me in before I was about to hit a damn illegally parked FedsEx truck, and I saw an opening at the last minute

I have a Passport 9500iX, the cop caught me using laser, no radar/LIDAR detector can really help you... Only jammers can

Also, they aren't "cop detectors". If they're sitting there doing math to calc. your speed (between two set points with a known distance) or pacing you, you're pretty much ****** if you don't spot them first.

Just kind of have to know the area, know where they hide and such. If I go somewhere new I never speed until I've gone through it a few times and have seen their hiding spots (or potential ones).

Tough to drive the 370Z slow...

I went out the other day, and it was tough to stay mellow...I just got lucky...

It just begs to be driven fast....

I KINDA agree, but I notice that the faster a car is the slower more mellow I drive it... I will accelerate like a SOB TO the speed limit with a fast car... But in my first car 2001 Toyota Avalon, I drove like a maniac... MANIAC...

binary0x01 09-24-2012 05:39 PM

It gets harder to drive slow when the car purrs the more you fix it up and the better the ride gets... gotta enjoy that as much as possible fellas

Why not? Mine has front and rear facing lidar detectors. They work just fine and warn me all the time.

I am 52 now, so I do bursts of speed rather than constant fast driving..

Back in the day, full speed from point A to point B, no matter what I was driving, or 10 miles or 600 miles..Full speed. I knew the top speed of every car I drove, mine or not,haha..So if you lent me your car, I beat on it..

Now it is just quick runs..370Z or Z/28.. a lot of 0 to 70 runs..

Would I love to do a top speed run in the 370Z ? Oh yes, but only on a closed track..Too much to lose now.

If you have ever used a Lidar gun you'd see, at 100 meters the beam is only about a foot in diameter, and cops USUALLY point it at your plate of lights. Also, it does not deflect like radar does... If you get Laser alerts all the time, either your detector has problems or its picking up the car... (Something on the inside of our cars sets it off)
And once the guy has pointed it at your car and had pulled the trigger, it's over, he has your speed... Laser uses direct pulses and takes no time to be read by the gun, and I mean NO TIME, only a jammer or absorber or whatever it's called can truly protect against laser... Even then, when the officer gets an error, he'll move to a different part of the car, where you don't have a jammer...

(Btw, the error messages Lidar guns give are sometimes displayed with "Speed 88", LOL!!! So sometimes you can get royally screwed)

(My info comes from using and being half trained to use a Lidar gun properly from the CHP... They have a repair shop across from where I used to work... I tried everything to beat that SOB, lol)

Lol, I really don't beat on others cars! I'm glad I never lent you my car... (Although I tell people to beat on it actually)

My buddy used to max his 370 almost every weekend when he first bought his car in Florida... He showed me pictures, lol... 165 or so, he has the 7AT... I'm glad he doesn't super speed anymore though

mhcoss 09-24-2012 09:38 PM

no offense bud, if you can't afford a speeding ticket you can't afford the car... Not meant to be trolling or anything but you may want to examine your priorities

I got a 100 in a 55 recently, he did "failure to obey traffic control devices" $111 fine, no points. I need a radar detector but from what I'm reading I'm not sure if they are worth the $400

No offense taken, I can afford the ticket, it just royally sucks, LOL. And I dont anticipate getting tickets (I guess no one does really) but it's all good, I'm selling my HFC's and wheel spacers, all should be good (and I do have backup money for emergencies, but speeding ticket isn't really an emergency)

How's Edmonton? I actually was born in Calgary!

really sux to have to sell mods for a ticket  I guess taking that approach is more punishing to yourself then just paying it. Next time you speed you'll be asking yourself what mod your endangering haha.

Edmonton is good, i grew up in texas so i'm pretty new to the area still, but I like it up here and I enjoy living in canada.

For non-laser/LIDAR, yes! My old Passport 8500 still warns me up to 3mi almost with K and Ka bands (which is what's used out here).

My only issue with it is that it doesn't filter anything - there are light cameras at some lights (just to see if cars are at the light, etc.) that set this thing off like crazy.

If another car has one of the cheapo Cobra's and such, it picks up Ka from that some how.

I turn on my HIDs, it will sometimes read laser. Same with punching the gas it falsely reads laser.

It's all good, next time, hopefully never, I'll just dip into my reserve money...

I was actually more raised in CA, and was in Texas for about a year and half, now back in CA to take care of my family... (Gramps is like 86 and has hard core dementia and Alzheimer's, and mom has gone to the hospital several times recently and has had several surgeries)

What always trips me out about going back to Canada (Not the French parts) is that the people are SOOOOO DAMN NICE... LOL

Haha I dunno about the nice part man. I was driving my Z today and jesus christ people were so rude. Every time I tried to change lanes some twit was trying to box me out, at one point I actually missed an exit because of it. I wasn't trying to race ahead of traffic or anything either, just cruising with the flow and put on my blinker and bam no one is letting me over even though the exit is a quarter mile away:wtf: I have a feeling it was simply because I was in the Z.. I seem to run into that a lot

I even had a ten year old kid (on a bicycle) flip me the bird at a light for no apparent reason. I'm still confused about that one.

sorry about your family, my folks live in CA too.

Monzy 11-11-2012 11:39 PM

Cop's are very generous unless you do something stupid that they saw. One example is that i was following a car that was going 35 in a 55 and I passed him on a solid dotted line at 60, just as I did that, a cop crested the hill and gave me a $500 ticket. It sucks but, when you go from a semi crappy car to a some what performance car they get ya' and get ya' hard.

2xtreme1 11-12-2012 12:40 AM

Just get like extensions on your ticket once you get it ( I think you get 3 months maxed) you have to extend it every month before it is due. Then after that set up a 3 month payment plan . :D

I have a Porsche carrera s. I never get pulled in my 370z, but I was driving the 911 that day. they target nicer cars in cali, because they think you can pay for it, but what they don't understand it that we spend our paychecks on cars, and parts.
