Oil Temp issues + Limp Mode....HOW!!!???

I seriously TRIED to get the oil temp up and get the car into limp mode.

Temp outside yesterday was 102F. I ran it HARD for nearly an hour. I'm surprised I didn't get caught for tickets...

Very hard accelleration, hard braking, aggressive downshifting...even cracked a hell of drift/fishtale/powerslide with TDS off...and a few times left dollar bills behind as I took off. Also discovered that it can break it loose in 4th gear as well - lol (reminder, mine is an automatic)

I couldn't get it to crack 260F...

So, those of you that have had it go into limp mode...WTF were you doing? Given my experience, I can absolutely see why Nissan would state that installing an oil cooler would indicate competition use...because short of competition, I can't see how the oil temp would be an issue, triggering limp mode.

Every car is a little different. Mine has hit 240 degrees with cruise control set to 55. I hit a hair over 260 driving it really hard on a twisty mountain road but I couldn't drive hard for more than 60 seconds at a time due to traffic. I am sure if I went to an HPDE my Z would hit limp mode within 5 laps.

What is limp mode, and why are you trying to get it there?

If you should ever hit limp mode, there are blue pills you can take that fix that problem.

Uhm, be happy and don't abuse your car? :)

Weather, fluid choices, driving style/speed, manufacturing differences, break-in miles, etc... Lots of variables.

I hit 260F several times with my Z, even though i only pushed it really really hard for 10 minutes. Every car is little different, you were just very lucky on pick out.

I drove aggresivly in short spurts for about 10min and i pegged the oil temp meter...i stopped because i didn't want to go into limp mode...killed the fun.

First of all, weatherman, brilliant.

Secondly, I was getting my "you need an oil cooler to keep from going into limp mode" speech ready, but now I see all I need is my "you're an idiot" speech, however it has been so beautifully expressed by facepalm that there is nothing left to say.

Umm, if you pegged the gauge then you went into limpmode. Either you didnt peg it, or you did go into limp mode. Perhaps someone on the internet is lying?

I never hit the limp mode or temp anything near 280. The hottest I ever ran was 250 (This happened when I was intentionally driving the car spiritedly to bring the temp up)

nogoodname 06-27-2009 04:58 PM

my conclusion is that kannibul is apart of the presses and got a Nissan Press Release car....lol

My engine temps have really tamed themselves as my car has broken in. In Chicago it's 90F and I can't get the temps over about 230F even with spirited driving. The track is a different story, but street driving has proven that oil temps aren't a problem for me.

I'm a urologist and happy to prescribe pills for limp mode :)

not that I have a problem spearfish, but can I get some? They are great for recreational purposes..
