Genesis Coupe is actually not bad looking and has decent numbers. I'd get it. But I'd strip off all the Hyundai badging and leave it bare. They are making better cars but its going to take a while for that first impression to wear off.

IMO, i think Hyundai is going on the right direction... it'll take few yrs or so but they will get there....

The company has come a long way and is making more and more reliable cars. I would definitely buy the Genesis coupe if I wasn't in the market for higher-end sports cars such as the Z or G37. The Genesis coupe will definitely be a lot of bang for the buck if you can get over the Hyundai tag. Any company that can get Brembo and ZF to specially design parts for their cars is definitely up-and-coming. The Genesis coupe is an impressive car and those that fail to accept this don't know their ****. There was a time where I would say I would never drive a Nissan (because of Datsun) and now, I'm in the market for one.

There are rumors of Hyundai preparing to release a luxury brand some time in the next couple of years. I will definitely be looking into it when and if that brand comes out though I think the timing couldn't be any more awful.

I couldn't aggree more. The Genesis coupe is pretty impressive and a great bang for the buck. The problem, around here at least, will be getting over the Hyundai tag.

One automaker, Hyundai Motor America, is trying to woo skittish buyers by promising to let them return cars free for up to a year if they lose their jobs and can't make the payments.
The "Hyundai Assurance Program" applies to customers stricken by misfortune outside of their control, such as losing their job, becoming disabled or losing their drivers license for medical reasons. It covers depreciation up to $7,500.

As much as I love NISSAN, I don't think you guys should be so quick to judge the Genesis Coupe. I can promise you guys its going to be the hottest trend for 2009, more so than the 370Z.

Review:
2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe First Drive

Excerpt:
Quote:

Outpunching the Nissan VQ V6?
It's surely no coincidence that this 3,778cc V6 outpunches the Nissan VQ V6 by about 100cc. We're slightly perturbed to see we've landed the six-speed automatic instead of the standard six-speed manual, but the six-speed slusher is a blessing in traffic — smooth, fairly quick and hassle-free. The lack of shifter paddles on the steering wheel feels odd in a car so sporting, though. At least Sport mode holds the gear to the engine's redline and asks that you press the accelerator farther before it will kick down a gear.

We stick on Highway 4 and make for Hongcheon, impressed by the quality of the roads and amazed by how much of the Korean GDP must be spent on bridge-building projects. Some 70 percent of the country is mountainous, so there's a lot of fresh air to span. But it's taking a long time to get anywhere at the mandatory speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph). At first we toe the line, perturbed by how few Korean drivers are willing to exceed the speed limit as well as by ubiquitous photo radar installations. But since there's zero police presence and the speed cameras are easy to spot, we settle in to a more reasonable 160 km/h (100 mph).

Even at this pace there's barely any wind noise in the Genesis coupe and tire noise is well suppressed except on the kind of concrete-paved sections you get on U.S. freeways. It's a nice cruiser, and a nice place to be. Even the soft-touch dash plastics exude quality — though the indicator stalks and charmless center console let the side down.

On the outskirts of Hongcheon the roadsides become a chaotic mix of LPG stations, single-story dwellings with tatty breezeblock walls and lunchtime eateries. A wide, slow-flowing river cuts through town and fishermen crouch peacefully at its sandy banks. But, like all the Korean towns we see, Hongcheon feels bland and reconstructed post-Korean War with too much haste and too little thought to the people who live there. So we push on through the Taebaek mountain range in search of Seoraksan National Park.

I saw a commercial for this today. That's kind of a big deal, and if I were one of the folks on the fence about which car to get, that would no doubt be a decision maker.

Zguy 01-11-2009 09:07 AM

I think you will see many gen coupes embarrasing 370's. You can buy a fully loaded 2.0T for 23k, That comes with Torsen LSD, Brembos and vented rotors, 6 speed trans and all the bells and whistles of interior stuff like navi and 7 speaker infinity sound system, then put another 5-7k into the motor upgrading the turbo components and then be over 400 wheel. The 411BT is a proven platform for 500whp. I love the Z and I would probably get a Genesis if I had never sat in the new 370, but I am fully aware of the tuner capabilities of the Genesis Coupe. They will be a tuners dream and Hyundai has been very forward about that being their goal for the 2.0T R. Millen got a Coupe FREE to mod and its a monster... and HKS got a coupe for free as well. anyone that doesnt think this car is a serious contender will be sadly proven wrong...... just my .02 I still love the Z though :)

Educ8r 01-11-2009 09:25 AM

I applaud Hyundai on the Genesis coupe, but I agree the look of the 370Z is more aggressive.

I said I like the Z but im not going to be ignorant because a name brand is on it. Im sure you dont run around buying things just because they have a brand name on them? Do you only buy Brand Name drugs or do you get the generics to save money? The same people and same machines put all that we use together... they just put a different name on it..... even down to the bread you eat.... I worked for Mrs Bairds Bread .... popular down south..... We made all the Mrs Bairds bread along with the Walmart brand and Kroger brand and any other prival label bread.... and it was ALL the same.... Have pride in what you like and what you chose to buy but dont be ignorant and say because its a certain brand its garbage.... actually if you look at the stats Hyundai has better quality than Nissan..... BTW.... I still love the Z....

The 2009 award is for the Sedan, not the coupe. There is an article about it in the off topic: other vehicles forum. Totally different cars

Don't fret it man... It's just some friendly ribbing. Well from some of us anyway ;)

Is the Hyundai a nice ride? To some sure, but don't assume we all do..It's all subjective, like the 370z for example...some like and some don't. But being that this is strictly a 370z site. Most of the negative responses here are no surprise. Ask the same on a hyundai (or any make) forum and you would get the same negativity toward toward the Z.

But you know... If someone really wanted to know more or even cared about Hyundai's new coupe? They would have gone to a Hyundai site and not to a Nissan one (or at the very least the other vehicles forum).

Agree, it's all subjective. Personally I don't care about the Genisis. It has no appeal to me and if I was interested I would make a visit to a Hundyai forum. ;)

In terms of market share, I think the Genesis poses more of a threat to Honda than it does to Nissan. People who want - and can afford - a Z are still going to get a Z. But people who are contemplating a Civic Si will be hard pressed not to seriously consider the Genesis.
