Anyone else find the '13's to look generic like a base 350z?

I love the look of the 370z sport(the wheels, rear spoiler, and every panel on the car blend so well.)

Base model looks plain but it's probably just the wheels. Then comes the 2013 model and changes the looks of the exterior. I find it horrendous. Front bumper is ugly, it ruins the entire car.

I was never a fan of the 350's, but like I said the 370z sport with the little spoiler looks almost perfect, especially in pearl white. And I'm usually not a fan of this color it just looks so good on this car though :)

treystarksz34 09-03-2012 07:42 PM

I really think the 13 look is a little more toward subtle than a sports car. The fangs on the current model give a really aggressive look and match the sharp lines of the car. The rounded look of the front bumper doesn't compliment the car in my opinion.

everyones got their own opinion of it. In fact theres been a few threads about this topic already.

Some of you love the fangs. some of us did everything we could to make them disappear.

Some loved the 350z look, some didnt.

Obviously, someone thought it looked good and so they made it. Not everyones going to love it.

JungleZ 09-03-2012 08:04 PM

I agree but i also think the 09-12 Sport package wheels are ugly and prefer no spoiler for a cleaner look. Just like how im sure some people dont like the fangs. Its good to have options of different model years.

state 09-03-2012 08:14 PM

Personally, I liked the fangs. Someone said "catfish", but that sounds like envy to me. It really says GTFO. Anyhow, I really dig LEDs too, and agree that the 2013 is more subtle. My base coupe really appeals to my design sense (though not quite under the radar, either). On the other extreme, the NISMO is overwrought -- trying too hard, though I believe all changes are truly functional.

Montez 09-03-2012 08:22 PM

No I don't, think it looks like good. Just got to except mid cycle changes, can't stay to what we have gotten use to forever. As far as the 350 goes it and the 370 look 75 to 80% the same, just don't understand why so many claim to hate the 350's look but love the 370's..... That's why so many call our 370's 350's......

The BlueMax 09-03-2012 10:25 PM

Not Missing anything

Although I haven't seen a 13 in person the changes don't impress me I'm glad I've got a 09 with sport in blue. The 350z looked good when it first came out but I lost interest in it after a while. I never lost interest in the old 300ZX [90-96] I almost bought one. I'll have to wait for the next generation to see what Nissan comes up with.

ShinyBlueZ 09-03-2012 10:39 PM

I don't mind too much either way.. a Z is a Z is a sexy is a Z to me. they all look hawt, but I do find the 09-12 sport package with spoiler + fangs + rims look 'perfect'. maybe cuz mine is still relatively new to me.. but I've looked around a bit and have yet to see any aftermarket body kits or rims that make me go "wow that would make my Z look so much better."

now with the LED headlights/running lights. personally I think it looks pretty tacky on the Audi's that I noticed started it.. and even on the Porsches that followed. and now they're on our Z's.

I guess certain fads I just never understood or got on board with.. like clear tail lights for all those years back in the late 90's/early 2000's lol

Quick370z 09-04-2012 01:45 AM

I'm pretty positive if there was a vote for the sexiest wheels on a production car, the 09-12 370z would be up there. Honestly the wheels make the car! The redesign of the 13's is a bit of a disappointment, the made the gaps on the end of the rims wider, so its less aggressive - biggest flaw really is the bumper though.

I do like the red calipers though..

We live in a great country and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the 2013 model horrendous and ugly???

I take the totally opposite opinion and think it is a gorgeous car. I think your opinion must be in the minority. As a 13 Sport owner, I'm surprised how many people have come up to me and given me compliments on my car. I was also pleasantly surprised today when a Scion FRS drove by and gave me the thumbs up! Pretty cool stuff for a horrendous and ugly car.

SmallermouseZ 09-04-2012 02:24 AM

:iagree: Well said, well said.

FairladyZ 09-04-2012 02:53 AM

My gf thinks it looks like a 350 front end.

Me personably everything is growing To me and I don't mind the front end at all.

UruZai 09-04-2012 04:02 AM

I use to think the same way. When the '13's first debuted at the Chicago Auto Show, I thought it looked weird without the fangs. But when I went down to the dealer to look at them, they didnt look so bad. I think you need to see the car in person to really appreciate the new look. But thats just me! :D

Haboob 09-04-2012 08:59 AM

I am not too fond of it, but could get used to it. Unfortunately I'll have to change the rims, because they are atrocious.

But, the only option I have to get a new '12 is to have it shipped from Vegas, as that's the closest one. There's not a Base + Sport '12 6MT in all of Arizona. :(

And no '13s yet, 3mo. order the dealerships told me, though one of them didn't even know there was any physical differences between the two model years. :shakes head:

Davey 09-04-2012 09:34 AM

I saw a sport/touring '13 in person and I thought it looked great.

I agree. If you have not seen the car (and the new wheels) in person you need to, before you make up your mind they're ugly.

If you see them in person and still think they're ugly, then I can't really argue with that, but until you actually walk around it and see everything I think it's a bit premature to call the car "generic" or "ugly."

shadoquad 09-04-2012 09:51 AM

I think they look different, but good.

NewtoZ's5 09-04-2012 03:33 PM

They look okay, but I intentionally bought a '12 rather than a '13 because I like the look of the fangs better. To me it looks more aggressive. They were also offering 0% interest on the 2012's so that was a plus too:happydance:

still sexZ tho.

Common... Midnight blue baby! That's the color I painted my 240Z back in the day! Wish I could swap my PW to MB! That color is just awesome.

I'd keep my front bumper though. :tiphat:

coltrain 09-04-2012 05:16 PM

I love the 2013 front bumper and updates. It seems like this should have been the evolution after the 350z and harkens back to Datsun. Everyone will tell you to see the 13's in person. If there's honestly someone who think's the 2013's are still ugly after seeing them in person ... no words

IMO, At least now owners won't black out the fangs and create a massive black hole in front.

Looks are subjective. There are people who think the '13 is godawful fugly and that the '09-'12 is gorgeous, and there are people who think the exact opposite.

Personally, I don't like the '13 as much, but I still think it's quite an attractive vehicle. I like the more aggressive look with the fangs better. Just personal preference. And I've seen plenty of '13 models in person already :tiphat:

I feel similarly... I don't like the '13 better and intentionally picked up a '12 because I liked it better... But I don't think the '13 is a bad looking car at all. I actually really like the wheels now that I've seen them, and wonder if they're just as light.

treystarksz34 09-05-2012 10:27 PM

Are there any other standard features added to the 2013 or is it just the bumper?

changed up the wheels, red calipers, offered an optional leather/bose package for the nismo, and I'm sure there were other incremental changes.

Also, "euro-tuned" shocks on the sport package.

Cmike2780 09-05-2012 10:53 PM

It just needs a more aggressive lip kit.

Here's one I designed/sketched.

Wow I love that lip kit! It makes the 13' more agressive!

I totally agree. Looks are subjective... Although I like the 09-12 better, the 13' is not bad at all. And I definitly like the 13' Nismo better then the 09'-12' Nismo.:yum:

Besides the red calipers, gun metallic rims, what is the difference between a '09-'12 and '13 Nismo that makes the '13 better looking?

Crappy lighting aside, what's the difference between this ('13 Nismo on a dealer lot)http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/06/ede2ujen.jpgand this ('11 Nismo)?http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/06/nasugu8a.jpgI don't see it.

Those details sound small but it looks sharper to me.

Well, for some people they don't care but some do. Just go check how many people powder coated their wheels and calipers on their 09-12 Nismo and be super happy with it. Again, looks are subjective. I personally like the 13' Nismo better.

Don't get me wrong, the color of the rims and brakes are nice on the '13s, but it doesn't make it look like a different car. When I look at these pics I see the same car with two minor detail differences. It's not as if its such a dramatic a change as the new front end with LEDs and definitely not something that makes me love one so much more than the other. To me they're both sweet. Now if the body or kit changed that's another conversation all together.

A814Z 09-06-2012 07:24 PM

IMO, the front bumper in 12' seems longer, maybe just the different angle of the photo

mardigras 09-07-2012 01:36 AM

I couldnt agree more. I went to the nissan dealship today to get some crush washers and noticed they had a 2013 there and the first that jumped out was the ungly front bumper... What were they thinking...

Fabio88 09-07-2012 03:22 AM

I usually just buy new rims, stock rims on most cars don't look good you know.

I think pretty much all of the 370z rims have looked good, but aftermarket rims certainly stick out on this car.

Mt Tam I am 09-07-2012 09:27 AM

Most non Z drivers can not tell the difference between a 370, a Porsche or a 350Z. So to say the 2013 370 looks more like a 350 is mildly amusing.
