The benefits from owning are substantial btw when it comes to tax breaks, equity and credit building. Not to mention investment potential in this economy.
Yeah, had I thought about it, that's what I would have done instead of getting the Z - get a second property, and rent one out.

I was seriously thinking of buying a third property as well but I've wanted a new Z forever and life is short....

I personally own a home but I don't see any shame in having a nice car but living with the parents if you're in transition. And by transition I mean you better be in school or in some apprenticeship or something of the sort.

Maybe so when they get out of school they have money saved up to move on? If they don't then they'll be at their parents for a few more years trying to save money.

I'd buy here in L.A. if it made any sense too, but I'd pay more in interest and HOA (even after accounting for taxes and such) than I would on rent for comparable (if not nicer) places.

Plus I needed a car as my old 97 Honda was fallin apart (I coulda gone cheaper, sure, but life's short).

there's another school of thought in owning a house...some rich people here do not buy house but prefer to rent. imagine this...you have 200k+ cash...they believe that it would be better used in investing the money somewhere else that makes money rather than spending on a house...they choose to rent than spend money buying a house...

I "rent," but it's paid by my company. I need to be in the "none of the above" category that isn't an option.

A little higher percentage of people living with their parents than I would have thought.

I think we could look at the age owner thread and see the highest percent of owners were in the 22-25 group I believe. Most are probably college students or young adults building a career (with or without college) and have chosen to save money by living with the parents currently. I was shocked when I saw that thread and saw such a high percent in the low 20 group.

Funny you guys say that, many people asked me why I did not wait a bit and just buy a GT-R. I did not want to be that college student.
