Smart Stop Break Lights?

Anyone have Smart Stop Break Lights on their 370? I do. Apparently the dealer I bought my Z from installs it on all of their new vehicles. If you don't know what this is, it makes the break light in the spoiler flash 3 times when the break is depressed. It's supposed to reduce rear end collision. Kinda cool I guess. I got rear-ended in my Maxima a few months ago so if it helps reduce rear end collision I'm good with it. Just thought I'd share. Might be a cheap mod for anyone interested.

I would think that would give someone a seizure and then they crash, :bowrofl:

nah but its a cool idea though, any idea how much it costs to put in?

-The dealer already had it installed when I bought it. Listed on sticker for $300. I can't imagine it would cost anywhere near that if you did it yourself.

It's just a module you wire your 3rd brake light into. The module is about 25 bucks.

ahh good find. :tiphat:

robones 08-20-2012 09:01 AM

Yeah. its really good. Keeps people about 5-7 feet away when you break. I have it installed on my fog light. I use my fog light as a 4th Break light and this relay makes it blink (like an Indy Car) when I press my brakes ;) Super cool effect.

wstar 08-20-2012 09:47 AM

Ah neat, I didn't know someone had a cheap module for this. Ordered one :)

gbrettin 08-20-2012 10:09 AM

Very nice find. I'm getting one as well. I'll work with my brother (a mechanic) and get a DIY completed for this.

UNKNOWN_370 08-20-2012 10:22 AM

Mine does this. I could have sworn all Z's come with this standard from 2010 and up????

Kingbaby 08-20-2012 10:26 AM

Lol

Stealth36 08-20-2012 11:47 AM

This is a great find! I was going to wire something like this up for my fog light but I'll buy this instead.

Dude, seriously? All the Z's that aren't 09's do the triple blink shyt in my area.

2011 Nismo#91 08-20-2012 12:43 PM

Its a good idea, but in my area I know someone will sue/make you at fault for having it if you get rear ended. Personally I'd like to have one that changes the blink rate based on the rate of deceleration. I just know some ahole will claim they had a seizure just so sue you.

1st 08-20-2012 12:45 PM

I think this would be a nice feature on the rear fog light not the 3rd break light.

maybe all from the same dealer?

UNKNOWN_370 08-20-2012 03:21 PM

Naw... most these guys leave the stupid dealer plates on. Its from different dealers around DFW.

srbrubak 08-20-2012 06:53 PM

This item looks like a big profit item for the dealer. It is almost like adding sound proofing and rust protection before the car is sold and just add it to the list price. Nothing but more profit for the dealer.

nmjaxx9 08-21-2012 04:31 PM

im happy with my non seizure brake lights,:roflpuke2: I may order the module later on though.

robones 08-22-2012 07:16 AM

Only bright pulsating lights for an extended period of time create seizures you don't have to worry about a 3 second blinking red light. :)

Facts never stop people from suing.

True but if a blinking red light was deamed safe to be used in Formula 1 race cars going 190+ MPH then I am pretty sure you will be safe use it driving around at 55 mhp. :)

All sort of tests were done by the many people to come to that conclusion (to add it to F1 cars as a safety device)

Roadster4Us 08-22-2012 09:03 AM

Don't turn signals blink :rofl2:

cossie1600 08-22-2012 10:35 AM

they only use it for the rain and cautions, not as a brake light

They're talking about the blinking light causing seizures. If a 3rd brake light flashing 3 times would cause a seizure, then I am sure a flashing blinker would also cause one, not to mention those people that are constantly on and off their brakes.

Exactly! LOLOL :bowrofl::roflpuke2::inoutroflpuke:

UNKNOWN_370 08-22-2012 08:18 PM

This whole seizure shyt is fvkkin dumb. Who is gonna get a seizure from that? Its not a 60 inch plasma with high intensity action scenes continuously going from a video game. its a half inch wide strip of light thats maybe 12 inches long give or take????? You have a better chance of suing over colored HID's than the foglight. And i hioghly doubt that would happen...

wstar 08-23-2012 11:27 AM

Got the Kahtec one in the mail today, spliced it in, works fine. First time I tested it, I was applying +12V on the wrong lead to test with :). It's a nice little flash pattern, and it's over with quickly, I like it. Our top brake light is a bit subtle anyways, it's not overkill and not gonna piss anyone off.

You mean you didn't have a seizure from the pattern? lol :bowrofl:

I have it and like it. considering back in 09-10 Z owners were being rear-ended like Z crashing was the in-thing to do. I like having it cuz it grabs peoples attention and i believe it helps reduce accidents. Mine came with my car though from the dealer.

I have the EVO-R rear fog light wired up like this as well. It's hilarious seeing people at night in the car behind me pointing and talking about it. :icon17:

I'll have friends that follow me ask me about it, "Why do you have that blinking light back there?"

I simply ask: "You saw it didn't you, and recognized I am stopping?"

"Yeah...."

"That's why I have it."

Evofusion 08-23-2012 05:21 PM

Anyone have video of this? I'm having trouble picturing it. Does it blink really fast? or is it 3 slow flashes?

joshs09slvrZ 08-23-2012 05:59 PM

Yes...I would like a video and maybe a DIY for it as well. I'd buy the fog light and wire like this in a heartbeat!

wstar 08-23-2012 06:08 PM

Let me see if I can prop up my phone on the garage door or something to get vid while I'm hitting the brake :)

wstar 08-23-2012 06:18 PM

Hah, went back out to see if I could get a video of it, and it stopped working again (back to solid-on). I suspect it's just an iffy ground with their stupid little splice connectors. I'll solder it up tomorrow.

Stealth36 08-23-2012 07:33 PM

I just got mine today and will install it Saturday. I'll take pictures/video as well.

robones 08-23-2012 09:50 PM

I'll post a video. I have the fog light installed with the blinking relay
