Yes same idea. I choose the fog light to blink instead of the 3 rd brake light because it gives it more of a Formula One look. I also bought the module that it only blinks after 8 seconds of not having the brakes pressed. Its meant for bumper to bumper traffic so not to piss off people behind you. I mean, having a light blink every time you press the brakes in morning rush hour might annoy people. ;)

:bowrofl: I hear that.

Soldered mine today to eliminate wiring issues, works much better now. As noted in the Youtube description: it looks like it has some weird partial strobe-effect (side to side) going on, but that's just an effect of the camera itself interacting with the blink rate (think trying to shoot video of a tube TV...). In real life it looks like a consistent and normal blink :)

You can still tell the timing, though, FWIW:

That's pretty cool. How would we wire up the fog to do that? Could anyone post up a DIY on it? Obviously you'd have to purchase the fog light itself along with the flasher...but how would you wire it?

The flasher unit is pretty simplistic for wiring. It has 3 leads: red, blue, and black. You cut the positive wire to the brake (or fog) light and hook up the red and blue wires to the two cut ends (red towards the car, blue towards the light), and the black is just a normal ground (like the ground on the light).

Here is my video. Its during the day so maybe you can see a contrast from the night videos. Its the smart stop delay version by the way.

Very nice man!

So how did you wire this up? Does the fog only come on when you hit the brakes?

Stealth36 08-26-2012 12:35 PM

Yes, it only comes on when you hit the brake. I can probably do a diy since I took some pictures along the way. Its actually pretty simple as long as you're comfortable sodering.

That would be awesome! Can you include your parts list as well?

Installed my Kahtec module last week. Took less that an hour. Wired to my 3rd brake lite in the wing. Simple install...just be careful removing the interior panel on the hatch, the plastic things aren't fragile but will break . I did not use the included blue connectors...I used in-line splices to take up less room in the wire bundle. I bought the flash then steady module. It flashes about six times then goes steady. You have to take your foot off the brake for 8 seconds for the flashing to reset. Works great.

Has anyone done a rear fog light in the USA with a 2013 Z (With the red reflector)?

I'd love to have a smart stop rear break light there instead of a reflector on my 2013.

Ive decided to wire mine to have a little more impact. Took me a few hours, but the results are more profound than the initial blinking fog light. I've wired mine up to eject the passenger. This way, they really have to take notice and stop. I have found this especially useful when my date starts talking about all her Ex's...works really well. :bowrofl:
