Lost my only I-Key! :(
So, while out jogging my key popped out of my pocket. Yeah, I know, I'm an idiot. HELP!
So, after a call to the dealership they said they can replace my I-Key by doing several things totaling over $300. I'm looking for an alternate solution to getting another key made. What the dealership said they HAD to do: Buy a replacement Key - $40 Buy a replacement Switch - $143 Reprogram the car - $125 +Tow to the dealership ~$150 I don't want my car re-programed. I just want another key made. Can anyone think of an alternate to this? Any ideas?

I think you might be SOL on this one. I believe you even have to have the car present if you just want another spare so they can "key" it. Looks like you are getting it towed to dealer regardless.

they are right about most of it, but as far as I know you don't have to get a new switch. You can buy the key fob for like $70 or $80 and it's supposed to be $50 to reprogram it. This makes me glad I got the key insurance, I can lose mine every single day if I want and it won't cost me anything. Plus it comes with roadside assistance.

Yeah? Use the other key or start crawling along the jogging path and find the one you lost. Good luck.

scour craigslist lost/found section.
Offer reward. Maybe you can find a friend with a car trailer to save the towing fees. my key is on with a 3inch flexible steel rope with a carabiner on the end. the key design is very easy to lose if you have it in your pocket trying to reteive something else. Mine is clipped to the belt loop and slid into my pocket before I leave.

If it were a honda, key + programming is all you need, besides the tow...If it is like the honda, there is an immobilizer in the car that stores a code that the key has in it...when the codes of the key and immobilizer match, it allows the car to start. It all done electronically with the manufacturer specific scan tools. Also, again, speaking form a honda stand point, buy as many as you can afford now, because they will hit you with the programming fee again for another key, and the other keys if found will not work, they will not "add" a key, they will do "all keys lost" which gives the system a new code.
I would question the switch...
