Our VLSD is crap in snow and poor in big powered up turns and no good for drifting and power sliding (unpredictable when it lets go)

In other words the OEM VLSD is crap.
Is a Torsen type lsd better?

Depends on how you drive.
Track guys and drift racers prefer clutch plate diffs 1,1.5,or 2 way

Daily drivers like the Quaife style helical gear.

I recommend taking to some racers and tuners to decide what you will be happiest with. It's a pretty in depth topic. With pros and cons to all types.

I chose Helical gear type for ease of maintenance, daily drivability and because I have no need to tune my lockups (1,1.5,2 way). Also I don't wan't to worry about plate wear.

The OEM VLSD is probably fine if you are not driving pretty dang hard or competing.

I mostly upgraded mine to:
1 enhance predictability while power sliding (drifting)
2 help get more grip in the Colorado winter snow
3. Reduce the occurrence ofVDC while accelerating out of hard turns on really twisty roads.

All these would be better served with clutch LSDs but I want a compromise of better drivability (clutch style like the NISMO optional, are loud and "clunky") and lower maintenance.

So far, I'm happy with my choice.

Hope this helped.

Sweet! Love those Avante Garde/Work wheels. Post up some pix after you put them on your car.

Ok I was just wondering because I know my Sentra SE-R Spec-V comes with a Torsen type front lsd.....Just curious if that one if better than the one in the Z?

not better...different. the main drawback of a torson is that if you loose all traction on a wheel then it acts like an open diff (like on ice, or if a wheel lifts up in a 1.1 g turn)

Got her wet today... stupid rain. Thankfully I dodged the hail (minor as it was) and only hit rain.

MAZOC meet, now working on powder coating my dipstick (which isn't as fun as it sounds)

If this goes well, I'll try and figure out the coolant tank tomorrow. It looks more complicated than "two bolts" but I dunno.

The FedEx guy just challenged me to a race. I laughed and said I might have his truck beat 0-60. He said he has a '69 V8 mustang with a pneumatic shifter 580hp at the wheels etc. He then told me he has $78k sunk into the car.

He told all of this to me unsolicited while he was dropping off a package. I have no idea.
