Now hear this
According to my dealer, if there is no bracket/holes for the front license plate on your vehicle when you purchase it you are not required to install it. (I don't know if this is VA law or a national policy). At any rate, before putting holes in your shiny new vehicle I suggest doing research on that topic and asking your dealer (they do kinda have the burden of knowing these things after all). Of course I have not confirmed this information with local laws but I figure that if I do get pulled over for not having the front plate on I can claim ignorance and being given misinformation. By the by, what cop pulls a U-ey to give a ticket to a car he's passed without a front plate? It would seem to me that he is paying attention to the wrong **** if he notices it's not there on one of the thousands of cars he passes each day. That is just my 1/5 of a nickel.

I think your dealer is wrong. All cars sold in this country have to have the ability to mount a front plate for states that require it. The Z comes with a bracket for this purpose. Corvette guys are notorious for trying to skirt the front plate law because mounting their plate requires you to remove the Corvette insert in the front bumper.

Wrong, if your in CA and tell that to the cop he'll laugh.

Well, sadly im not in Cali anymore:(

I posted this earlier today in another thread:
Good ol' Virginia law: § 46.2-715. Display of license plates. License plates assigned to a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, tractor truck, trailer, or semitrailer, or to persons licensed as motor vehicle dealers or transporters of unladen vehicles, shall be attached to the front and the rear of the vehicle. The license plate assigned to a motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer shall be attached to the rear of the vehicle. The license plate assigned to a tractor truck shall be attached to the front of the vehicle. The license plates issued to licensed motor vehicle dealers and to persons licensed as transporters of unladen vehicles shall consist of one plate for each set issued and shall be attached to the rear of the vehicle to which it is assigned. |
yeah in VA you need it, in some states you dont, such as here in NV, the law states that you must have a rear plate and you must apply a front plate if there is front plate bracket.
so yay for me :) |
:inoutroflpuke:Bahahahahah. The bullsh!t stealers will spew now days.
Someone should make this into a game show. They walk into dealerships with hidden cameras and then play stupid and ask questions so we can all laugh at the ridiculous things salesman say. |
Incidentally, does the front mounting bracket come with the car? Like for free? Cuz the dealer didn't give me mine. And as I understand California vehicle code, it is illegal to deliver a car to a purchaser without it installed unless the purchaser signed a waiver that they refused installation of the front bracket...

They are required to have front plates as well in Texas. My buddy was driving his evo x the other day and got pulled over by a state trooper and was given a written warning for not having a front plate...
|
Also if there is no speed limit posted, you can make your own!
|
Just mount your front plate with a servo so when you hit a switch it folds up out of sight then flip the switch the other way and its visible to the cops. Or just do like James Bond and have the rotating licence plate system ;P
|
I wonder if there's anything like the Z bracket; I'm adverse to mounting a front license plate on my car (although I'm just being whiny). I'm all for the "clean" look, and that means no license plates = good.

Somebody, maybe Stillen? has a front plate mount that screws onto a bolt that plugs in where the tow hook goes. Means no cutting/drilling holes into your bumper. I'd like to see one in the flesh, however before I commit. Are there locking nuts to keep the plate from rotating on the stud?
Yeah, here's the link http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...SAN&model=370Z |

Here is a pic of the Stillen front bracket

There is also the option that I see done to a lot of cars around Fort Hood. Four suction cups in the lower corner of the windshield! No cutting, no drilling, and no messing up the clean line of your front bumper. :happydance:

wow, someone here really doesn't know how to take a joke :icon18: It's called sense of humour. You should try it sometime. Yeah, exchange rate is crap, but so what? The USD is almost worthless nowadays anyway. It will get even more worthless as american power declines. The Euro is likely to be the dominant currency of the future. And universal healthcare is good. Unlike your country, we don't have people dying of very treatable diseases just cuz they don't have a lot of $$$ or an expensive health insurance plan. Don't diss it cuz you never know when you may need it. |
Okay kids, time to make up or go to your rooms.

Uh... back on topic?
I never knew that Stillen made a license plate bracket like that. I might have to stop by and check it out in person. |
