Default On & OFF Switch for Exhaust???

You can tell me a little more about this??? I'm getting the Meisterschaft exahust full CB installed and was told by a member that an ON/OFF Switch was possible. The muffler shops I have called dont seem to know what Im talking about. Some insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've seen switchable exhaust bypass valves but they generally go from muffled to open dump which would be much louder. Would be major fabrication and money to get some sort of switchable resonator or muffler and would look it ***/sound like ***.

Get the exhaust you are comfortable with on a daily basis.

It is a great deal of work for little payback.

^^ What he said. Usually its a stock exhaust with an electric cut out that just dumps the exhaust out the side or something. If your worried about sound you might not want to go with the Meisterschaft.

Exactly, and it's illegal to have on a street driven car here in NJ. Also having pretty much no back pressure might cause some issues. http://www.driftworks.com/shop/media...stvalve1_1.jpg

I have seen ones that go on the very end of the exhaust like on the newer corvettes where there are 4 pipes but only 2 are open for normal driving then under higher pressure a valve opens up the other 2 pipes to increase flow.

Exhaust bypass valves come standard on the factory exhaust for the Audi RS4. Is the RS4 illegal in NJ?

Probably unless the had a special exception because it was a limited run, good luck getting one with out a legal division on hand. You are not allowed to have excess of 90db on a car's exhaust. Opening a cut out will do that easily and then some. No inspection station would let is pass either if they saw it.

If I'm not mistaken, some of the 'vettes also have this.

What is on the vetts is not an exhaust bypass, another exhaust tip just opens up, completely different. The original exhaust system is still used there is just another hole in the back.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm really not all that worried about the sound (I love loud), but someone mentioned it in an earlier post to me and I wanted to get all my options before the install this weekend. Thanks again!!!

I think the key word here is "use" i.e., possession and usage are two different things legally. So you can have it, but you can't use it on a public road or you risk getting a ticket (but you could still open it up on a track). I've seen other laws that draw these subtle distinctions. In GA, for example, it's legal to purchase an automatic knife, but not carry it. Or for another example, in GA you can have your car equipped with NOS, but you can't use it on a public highway. (So if you get pulled over the cops will sometimes check to see if the valve is open on your NOS bottle.) But hey, I could be wrong.
