Looks like the 2015 Z wont be getting a turbo after all???
PARDON IF THIS IS KNOWN INFO
Sadly and surprisingly enough, I read an article from Road&Track that the patented infiniti 3.0 turbo engine we all been excited about is a TURBO-DIESEL set for Europe Obviously this engine won't fly here in a Z. From what it looks like... the 2014 G coupe will be getting the M37H engine producing 360hp. (Possibly 10-20hp boost with a sportier tune) The IPL is rumored to be getting the AMG 5.5 ltr v8. Then there's the mercedes 3.5 that will be another optional engine for the Gcoupe. The G coupe is straying away from number designations so these varied displacements make sense. The Z has been marked by its engine displacement since day one in the U.S. and europe. So I'm sure japan will persist in continuity for the american version of the fairlady??? Article here: 2013 Infiniti G Coupe - 2013 Infiniti G Coupe Future Car First Look on RoadandTrack.com I bring this to the table because of the inherent kinship between both v37 skyline and Z34fairlady. One thing I heard nissan say about a year ago is that the fairlady and Skyline won't be related anymore. Both will be, soon there own seperate cars. I don't know if the meant that by chassis design or engine? But I do know this. I don't think either engine is appropriate for the Z. As intrigued as I am to see a 5.5L G-coupe. I think its heavier 2+2 bodystyle and long wheelbase allow for this type of engine and displacement increase. Whereas the Z is borderline bloated for its original design philosophy. At this pont i'd be happy with a refined 3.7 with 360hp/305LB TQ(non-hybrid) and a 350lb diet. That would make minimal acceptability for a Z and I have a feeling that won't happen either... the fate of the Z is scary. Where will the Z go is unclear. But we now know the 3.0T is a pipe dream of a possible FI platform... we'll just have to keep digging for clues. |

the G and Z platform separated after G35C/350Z so it is good that they will keep the chassis separate.
nissan needs to watch out though, not to re-create the problem that led to their failure in the late 90's. too many platforms! |

A better Z is all I want, no steps backwards, like the 350. Otherwise it is a new company for me.

The only thing they need to do in order for me to be happy is lighten this bad boy up. Keep the power the same, but maybe up the torque a bit, and most importantly get it right under 3000 lbs. BOUGHT! BOUGHT! BOUGHT!

Yeah I agree. The biggest complaint for me on this car is weak on torque. It should be at least above 300. Turbocharge is one solution to achieve this. I still keep my hope on next gen fairlady to go FI.

Same here. I prefer FI, because of greater potential for power-ups, but NA power works for me too And a lighter Z sounds great to me! Oh, wait: The article claims that its the V8 that makes 360+ bhp? Huh?

To me this looks like new GTR platform. Im pretty convinced either Z is going away in favor of Silvia or we will see smaller Z with turbo 4.

The only thing I can think of is that nissan will pull YET another already produced Benzo engine for the Z and they're keeping it hush. Whatever happens? I hope that nissan keeps spearheading the trannies. Benz trannies are to smooth for any real sport fun. |
