There is a video of someone who did this, then attempted to take it off. It peeled all the paint on his car off.

Yeah I wouldn't try it :) I used Plasti-dip for the grill/fang area of my bumper, but I also sanded off most of the original paint first, and I don't care much about cosmetics, I just figured it would look kinda cool and be easy to repair from rock/tirechunk hits with respraying the plastidip.

Not trying to be mean but..... Are you really that dumb?
Dont do it! you will ruin a perfectly good car because you want it to be white?! wtf.. DAN |
I think OP is really just a cheap A$$ no offense. But honestly who in their right mind would consider this? Seriously? This has to be a joke. Since money is the OBVIOUS ISSUE HERE, have you even considered wraping the car in white Vinyl?
You just joined this forum and it looks like you have been browsing and reading all the plastidip projects and success stories and little cute pictures and thought, "HEY if the fangs, emblems and rear valance look good? then I am sure plastidipping the entire car would look good to!" C'MON!!!!!! :gtfo2: |
Checkout all the threads OP has started!

You guys ruined it. I bet we could have actually gotten him to do it. :shakes head:

Plastidip has a purpose. I haven't seen anyone do it to where it pulled the paint off, but I have managed to spray the material off with a high pressure washer at a car wash, so I can only imagine it's not very durable in the long term for an entire vehicle.
Vinyl is a lot more expensive than most people seem to think... Either way, I'd learn to love the car the way it is. ;) |

I did my wheels in white and from my experience I wouldn't recommend the whole car in white. The white sprays on really thin so you would have to do a sh*t load of coats and it would be a pain in the as$. Plus, white gets dirty fast and it's sorta a bit*h to clean.
Plasti-dip removing your paint? I doubt that. If anything, I feel the plasti-dip will protect your paint. The ONLY way I see plasti-dip removing paint is if the P-D is sprayed on a part of the body that has paint chipping/cracked already. |
Pretty good business idea if you ask me :tiphat: but I personally would never do my car.

So I agree that you might want to own a z first and then think about plastidip second. I don't know why you would buy a brand new car in one color just to plastidip it in another color. This might be something you might want to try after having the car for a couple years. Either way, the guy on YouTube actually sells a pre-thinned solution and sprayer. I would NEVER attempt this with a bunch of spray cans. Not only would your hand hurt but it would be all kinds of uneven and look terrible. If then go with the gallon can pre thinned and the sprayer. It will take a few coats thinly applied. Then end results I have seen are not too bad. Plus you can peel it off if you don't like it. All that for a couple hundred as opposed to a grand or more for vinyl wrap. IMHO.

Sometimes I like to plastidip my head

The guy has won car shows with his plastidipped s4. This thread is uncharacteristically hateful for this forum. |
Really? I call it tough love. Comments here will keep him in line from an otherwise questionable decision.
